HDV Conundrum: Getting HDV into Vegas

Hello all,

I have what I hope is a simple problem. A friend shot some video on a Sony HDV camera. He's left me the tape as I wasn't able to get him and his camera to my place to try to download straight from his camera.

Here are my questions:

1. I am assuming that I cannot get this footage captured into Vegas without his camera. Is this correct?

2. If I can find someone local with an HDV camera (Sony) can I hook Vegas to that camera via firewire and download this footage? Will I need any special codecs with Vegas 7?

3. If I can find someone with a Sony HDV camera and their own software, could they capture this for me, and output to some format I could take back and put in Vegas?

1) Correct. Not without an HDV camera or deck.

2) Yes, and no. Just use the Internal capture program.

3) If they capture it as an HDV (.m2t) file, they shouldn't have to output anything. They should just be able to give you the file.

A Canon camera should also work for you. A JVC will not.
