De Niro, Pacino Team for Indie Movie

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino will co-star in the indie film Righteous Kill from Nu Image's Millennium Films and Emmett Furla Films, Daily Variety reported from the Cannes Film Festival today (Thursday). The trade publication quoted Nu Image chief Avi Lerner as saying, "This is an event in world history." Lerner pointed out that De Niro and Pacino had appeared together only once before in a film. "They were in two scenes in Heat. In this movie, they are in the whole thing together," he said.

awesome!!!

Heat was great mostly just cuz DeNiro and Pacino were in it. It was even better than they weren't in a lot of scenes together.

They were both in Godfather II... although not in the same scene

Just saying, phrasing it as:

isn't true

When I read the title of this thread, I thought De Niro and Pacino were going to be in the new Indiana Jones movie.

...that would have been weird...

This could be really good or really bad. Both these guys may be too big to share the screen with each other.

Both have become caricatures of themselves, constantly going over the top. I hope they have a STRONG director onboard to help hold these two in check.

Sounds cool.

Although I doubt it will even be a tenth as good as Heat.

It will be nice seeing them act together for an entire feature though.

They only appeared together in Heat for a matter of minutes.

Should have been a hell of a lot longer.

Count me in.

yes. and though i loved them both in their respective roles, while i was watching Heat i couldnt help but wonder how it would be if they switched roles. pacino the bad guy deniro the good. it would have worked but would have been a very different movie i think.

Pacino has been stuck in an overtop acting style since he won his oscar for Scent of a Woman. It seems like he figured that kind of style won him an award so why not stick with it. Before that he had a great range as an actor. Now he is nowhere near where he was in the 70's and 80s.

"WHOO-AAAA!"

Yes, I agree. He's a great actor still in terms of knowing how to navigate through the dialogue and especially the monologues, take his beats, etc. I think he just needs someone he trusts who has the balls to tell him to tone it down a bit.

PS He was experiementing with his over-the-top choices way back when he played Big Boy in DICK TRACY.

Donnie Wahlberg has been confirmed. As well as 50 Cent... that last part has me really worried.

And how.

Pacino was a bit heavy handed in Heat, and I do think winning the oscar for Scent Of A Woman had something to do with it. If he had won for Glengarry Glen Ross (instead of Hackman for his role in Unforgiven), it may have been a different story. Out of the two roles that he was nominated for that year, I admire his performance of Ricky Roma a bit more. Since then, it seems that he has his acting knob turned up to 11 much too often.

DeNiro had been making some real lowest common denominator type commercial fare for a while. What with all the Analyzing and Meeting, it would be nice to see him sink his teeth into some solid parts again. It does speak volumes about the business, though, when one of the gresatest actors working today gets a bigger payday from hamming it up with Billy Crystal than he does from nailing performances oppposite guys like Al Pacino and Jean Reno.

If Scorsese were to direct this thing, we probably wouldn't have much to worry about. Since he is only rumored to be acting in it, then we shall see...

Wow, this would have been really exciting news...30 years ago? Neither of them has been very good for a long time now...

Taking a quick look a Jon Avnet's track record, I'm not sure he has the chops to keep these guys in check. And how rough would it be to be directing with Scorcese on the set?

Sorry to say it but you're right.

Good point

Off topic somewhat

What I love about Cop Land is that there are so many strong personality's, and it just works

I'd say give it to Mangold but he's crossed into Huge Budget land these days

(Cop Land was $15,000,000)

Just to stay off topic for a moment longer...Mangold did a great job on 3:10 to Yuma with Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Ben Foster and Peter Fonda.
