You use the Samsung SyncMaster 244T as onset Monitor?

Hi there,

I was wondering if the Samsung SyncMaster 244T would be a good monitor, for the price, to use on set when shooting HD?

Thanks,
Derrick

This is a computer monitor NOT a broadcast monitor. If you are shooting for a hobby this will be ok. If your picture quality really matters though... you MUST use a properly calibrated broadcast monitor or you will be disappointed with the final picture. Moreover, if you send your project to a broadcaster it will likely be rejected if it isn't up to standard. One of the key elements to achieving a good final picture is to accurately see in the field what you are shooting, by using the aforementioned monitor.

Again...

Is this a hobby or for broadcast?

If its for broadcast you will want a better monitor like a Marshall on the low end or a Panasonic 1700 on the higher end.

You can stick annoying producers or clients 50 ft away and run them a feed to that monitor, but not for you. Of course the better part of my career I shot not relying on a monitor, so if its just as a reference then so be it - just dont make any expectations based on the way it looks in the field. Same goes for the small Marshall, or any 7" LCD. They aren't exactly ideal, but for reference, focus and general comfort they are fine. Even the Panasonic 7.9" Monitor which is the best of the bunch is still a 480 horizontal line LCD reference monitor. I wouldnt truely trust anything less than that 17 inch. Like Take 1 says, that is the one you need!
