I hope this isn't true. I'm anxious to see his work in Wes Andersen's Darjeeling Limited.

I don't know man... Usually don't trust these papers until it actually is like shown on some other more reliable source... And yeah, I really want to see Wes's Darjeeling Limited!

Public Service Announcement - Don't do drugs, don't drink and drive, and don't be cruel to animals . If you want to have a good time go to Las Vegas. I hope he is ok. I love his awkward humor.

Even though we all have this perception of celebrity life, I'm willing to bet that it's a lot more challenging then you might think. Imagine being surrounded by people who ONLY make superficial judgements on you, and your worth and purpose is determined only by your most recent success. Now imagine trying to pluck some genuine love from somewhere deep within that machine. Even when you think you found it the odds are that the person you find may be wearing a mask anyway... and when the mask comes off there's nothing behind it.

I can see how living in a cycle of "skin deep perception" = reality... combined with all the drug and alcohol abuse as an attempt to be comfortable within that... could eventually wear a person down.

Maybe it's just a rumor, but if not then I hope he's alright. They're a long ways from BottleRocket...

Well . . .

1) Suicide is far and away the most selfish thing you could possibly do. If it's ever justified, it would be because of massive personal suffering.

2) Wilson has his health and the means to make his life into anything he wants it to be, moreso than the vast, vast majority of people.

3) Substance abuse is no mitigation; it's an aggravation.

Not intentionally trying to sound harsh; I just understand what Christopher Reeve meant when he said "I get pretty impatient with people who are able-bodied but are somehow paralyzed for other reasons."

So, sorry you think your life's rough, Owen, but if you don't work to change it, instead of taking the easy way out, it's your own failing.

If this is true ...

Damn. I love Owen Wilson. Very talented and such a charismatic personality. Too bad. Money and fame won't change the reality of living your personal life.

People who attempt suicide have mental health issues David and they need help. I have compassion and sympathy for these individuals because the anguish and suffering they must be going through are incomprehensible.

"help me I'm crazy" is a tough thing to say though. Especially when you know its going to hit the media and affect your career. I hope he gets the help he needs though.

I agree that they need help. No one can go it alone. But . . . ask for help. I have equal sympathy for the loved ones who are put through hell because of suicide.

I didn't really expect too many people to agree with me.

I don't know about you guys, but don't you find it strange that he only slit one wrist? I mean maybe he got scared and realized he had more to live for, so he didn't slit the other one...but if that were the case, why didn't he try to get help?

It seems a little strange to me and as much as these magazines have fake articles, I find it really hard to believe they'd try something as serious as this. Not underestimating the sleazy ways of these sorts of magazines, but I just find it a horrible thing to spread a rumor about.

We'll see what happens, but despite the outcome - I still stand by him, saying he's a good actor. It won't change my perception of his acting skills and because I don't judge him based on his personal life (I don't research his life and pretend to know him), I just hope that whatever reasons he had gets resolved.

I believe the idea of asking for help is a complicated one for these indivuals. They already feel so much despair and desperation. Imagining wanting to KILL YOURSELF.

If it was as simple as walking down to the Doc's office, it would be. But it is not.

Asking for help is of the rational mind, not the suicidal.

Agreed and I'm not by any means disputing that.

I just meant at the time of the attempted suicide, he may have had a change of heart...and if so, why then couldn't he seek help if he wanted to live? From my understanding of the article, he also took some pills as well, probably impairing his judgment.

I know its not really relevant, but I'm sort of curious as to why only one wrist was slit.

Here's my 2 cents... take it or leave it... When you're living for money, and fame, and you're a superstar like he is, you get to a point where you can't have any more, meaning, enough is never enough, and you feel like you're in a hopeless pursuit, and lose the desire to even live... I just am glad some celebs keep their focus on things besides money and fame... though still, it could be selfish things...

David-

Depression is a very real thing. It does some very sneaky things. Believe it or not, it sometimes makes it impossible for someone TO ask for help. Sometimes they can't ask for help. The depression sometimes makes the person feel like they are getting in their own way and they don't know which way to turn or how to get out of their situation.

Add to that, and this is VERY important for people who don't understand depression or have never experienced it...you cannot just snap out of it. Its not something you can just "work through".That's like saying you can snap out of a broken leg injury.

The guy is a celeb. Chances are, if he truly meant to commit suicide he isn't doing it for attention. He's got enough attention. Though, he might be crying out. Think of that...to be so incapable of asking for help because the down and dirty blues of depression has taken such a hold that you'd rather lie in a bathtub and take a sharp razor blade to the blue vein in your wrist than to say hey "i need help".
