Which Arri Light and Softbank/Softbox to buy?

I'm very curious as well... You've definitely got my attention.

Side Bar; Justin, Did you receive the Sony Extended Battery and Charger I sent last week?

Yes, I got the Sony Battery and Charger from you! Thanks!

And feel free to ask me all the questions you want.

It is best to think of these lights as legos. You can stack them and attach them to each other any way you want.

In our opinion most new lighting companies are attempting to canabalize the market by mimicking older designs while selling them at a lower price point. They haven't fully grasped that new technology has come along...and that the new technology allows us to redesign a motion picture light from scratch.

I should also stress that we regret competing with Richard. It wasn't our goal. We began work on our design two years ago and raised our venture capital to bring the light to market before we knew about Richard's work.

When I began pitching this concept to Venture Capitalists there was no prosumer vendor. The existing market segments were entry-level lights (like Briteks, Lowell, etc.) and established Hollywood vendors (such as Mole Richardson). Our goal was to create a light better than what Hollywood vendors produce at a price point somewhere between a Britek and a Mole.

I think Richard is doing amazing work and truly helps independent filmmakers and I wish him the best with his company.

No problems from me. I like new things just like everyone else.

So what we know so far is it's a fresnel or open face. Thusly, you can remove the fresnel lens then and just expose the inner light/reflector combo to the world as it is. Removable lens system like par to make it easy to take lens out? Lens about 6" to 7" diameter or so for a compact fresnel in this 50,000 lumen output range?

Also, since it's being called a fresnel it can go into wide or narrow beam of projected hard light then thanks to the focusing knob on the back. So we can project a pattern on the wall like a cookie and we get hard defined lines and shadows, right? If yes, we can also get a super hard shadow on the side of someone's face with it for the dramatic hard lighting effects a fresnel is so known for.

Yet it can also be soft too as I understand it? Through the use of a softbox type attachment on the face perhaps with diffusion silk or another diffused type lens.

Since we know it's putting out about 50,000 lumens apparently (a 2500w tungsten would be 50,000 lumens at 20 lpw which is also about the same as a 575w hmi which is typically 49,000 lumens). Your new technology can put out about 90 lumens per watt since we can go backwards from there and compute it. 50,000l/550w = 90lpw. HMI is 85 or 86 LPW and is super hot so it's doubtful its in the metal halide / HID / HMI family.

From your description it sounds more like it's from the fluorescent family as any LED that could put out 50,000 lumens wouldn't be only 90 degrees in temperature. However, most current fluorescents aren't capable of over about 60LPW. And I assume there's a ballast or special power supply unit somewhere too.

And this new unit is dimmable too? Line voltage dimmable or dimmable through a special dimming ballast attached.

Richard -

As I said earlier, I wish you the best.

I've been following all your messages for months. I reread your messages often, as have other members of our design team. We all have great respect for your knowledge of current lighting designs. Unfortunately, many of your conclusions don't apply to our invention.

I'd love for you to come to the American Film Market and test the light yourself. After you've seen the light in person I'd be happy to go out for a beer to discuss our invention. Several of our designers will be present at the AFM and I'm sure they'd like to talk to you as well.
