Edius 4.51 & Vista

I am not sure if this has been answered, but does 4.51 allow for Vista usage...I am about to do a new build and I would purchase Vista Premium based on the answer. (Yes I know that XP SP 2 is more stable, but OEM Vista is much cheaper if purchased at the POS.)

Thanks,
scott

It's not officially supported. As far as I know it *mostly* works... but a few important things like ProCoder do NOT work in Vista... So, you probably need to wait for 5.0 before you can hope for Vista support...

procoder worked for me.... most times.... ;) sometimes it would crash

vista sucks for now :(... i was messing with vista home premium and didnt get good results in any application

Well, since my laptop no longer gives me the great performance I am used to with EDIUs since the 4.5 upgrade, I have considered upgrading to something else. Found a few perfect ones that have the things I require. expresscard, pcmcia, etc....... except they have vista....

Create an image of the drive, wipe out the OS, and install XP. For anyone who does more than browse the web and use Office, XP is a much more sensible choice than Vista.

That is something I was thinking of... Though, I was reading some of the newer systems will have driver issues with some of the hardware..... Haven't done much research, but with one of the laptops I am looking at, it wouldn't surprise me if it were true... at least with this brand....

Yes, one thing that is becoming more common is that XP does not include the drivers for crucial hardware components simply because the hardware didn't exist when the XP or even XP SP2 CDs were pressed.

I just wiped out two Dell systems at the office and put XP SP2 on them -- one was previously used as a Netware server, the other as an Ubuntu box. The motherboard has an integrated Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet controller, and the drivers for it and the integrated sound card and video controller aren't part of the standard XP driver set.

I can live with VGA-resolution graphics and no sound until I had a chance to download the corresponding drivers, but when you can't even connect to your LAN, it gets more complicated.

The bottom line is that if you plan ahead, download the necessary drivers and put them on a CD or USB drive, there is no reason why you can't wind up with a fully functional XP system.

Thanks for the info... It's a shame that I'm even thinking about doing it, but I want my performance back.... I've been wanting something a bit smaller anyways... Something I can actually fly with... So, I may sell this one for what I can get, and then re-up to a Sony I've got my eye on (or something like it)... it's a bit of overkill, but it's dang nice, and I've got some potential jobs in the future in Indonesia that could use the bluray burner... anyways....

thanks, thoff.

Good call on trying out Ubuntu. I use it on all but one of my workstations (the other is a Win2k box for editing), and I love it.

And I'm betting Ubuntu had drivers for everything, even though XP didn't, yes? Of course for video editing GNU/Linux really isn't up to par yet, but for everything else, it rocks! Shame you had to go back.

I just inherited those two boxes from another software developer, wiping them out had nothing to do with a dislike of either of those OSes, I simply needed them for testing. I also can't tell you if the Ubuntu box was fully functional because I didn't have the password for it.

I just tried running Edius Broadcast on a HP XW8200 dual xeon and it wouldnt run. Installed Edius Broadcast on my laptop with dual drives and it works great with the sample footage I just captured on my HPX500. Time to roll back to XP for me.
