Used D1, or D70? pros and cons please?

I'm REALLY wanting to get back into photography, and I'm sick of waiting around till I can afford the setup of my choice. I need a camera now.

So, I'm going to have to be a cheap bastard.

What about the nikon D1? I know it's old, but how would it compare to a D70 package? I've shot on the D50, and even though it's a great camera, it just didn't fit me.

I could probably afford either in the next couple weeks (used), but for some reason beyond me, I've always been fond of the D1. Maybe cause I shot on it back when it was a bad@ss new age camera.

Anyway, I don't know much at all about the digital realm, so could someone take the time and let me know what I'd be missing out on by going with a 7+ year old camera, rather than a newer one?

The D1 is outdated, crappy with batteries, and just doesn't deliver a quality MP to performance ratio.

Save money either for a D80, D200, D70 (I prefer the D70s) or just get a point and shoot.

The D1 is so completely outdated that to spend any money on it is to throw your cash away.

Okey-dokey. Simple enough... and D70 it is.

Were there major upgrades to the "s"? they seem to be going for roughly the same price...

Well...

D70 is cheaper and the meter in it is better. I have 40GB of CF cards, I don't care about 10MP, the in camera stuff doesn't appeal to me, and most importantly, the D70 feels great in my hands.

That being said, I don't own a D70, just shot a lot with one.
