•••To Dark...Can't See a thing!•••

So I was wonderiing...I borrowed a LetUs Flip enhanced...latest model from a budy of mine. Under studio light, it was beautiful...but under normal indoor lights, it does no handle well...it needs tons and tons of light. I was even using a nikon 1.8 lens...not good at all.

So I am building my own adapter. Which screen is the brightest to use as my GG? Is it the Nikon D Screen, the canon Ee-A or Ee-S. I don't want to ever find myself in that situation as I found myself with the LetUs in indoor situations. I want the light to pass thru with no serious problems!

You could just use an adapter that doesn't flip and it won't lose as much light.
There is a lot more to a gg than just letting light through.

if you are doing any type of narrative work it would be a good ideal to light anyway if you 'd want to have a quality look.

There's no such thing as an adapter that will look good indoor without adding lights. It's not just the GG or the achromat. You have to stop down on your SLR lense and the camera lense in order for it to look sharp, and that's nearly two stops of light already. I doubt if the Letus loses that much more light because of its flip, probably half a stop or so. Best way is to just add more light.

well in this particular situation..all my interviews were lit..I was interviewing hospital staff...but then i had to do b roll on the hospital corridors...and with the adapter is was extremely dark...not even at 12db could i gdet a decent picture...the only was to get a picture was to take the adapter out of the camera.....bring it down to 0db..and it was more than sufficient light....but i know there are adapters that because of the GG can handle some low light situations...not extremele low light...but definately can capture comfortably

Yea, hospital corridor light simply isn't enough. You need at least 1 kw in order to compensate for the adapter. I once had to shoot with an M2 and a 500 w light and it's impossible to see anything. The M2 isn't even a flipped model.

Well there was enough light....plenty of windows and natural light coming in. With the letus I was wide and at 6db and I could barely get an image. As soon as i took the adapter off, i was able to bring it back to 0db and was comfortably shooting at F5.6.

I am not doging the LetUsFlip. It is a great little tool with light. But it handles in my opinion poorly in natural situation. This is why when building my adapter I was wondering which would be the brightest screen to use out there?

ok...so I ask again. Anyone has made a home 35mm adapter with a Nikon D Screen, the canon Ee-A or Ee-S. Any better than the other?

How about a Beattie Screen....It is expensive as heck but somewhere i remember people saying this is the best screen to use. Any truth to this?

What people are trying to tell you is that the effort you are about to expend in time and money could easily be saved by buying an existing adapter. All of the existing adapter have custom R&D'd screens...Brevis/SG Pro/Redrock all put a hell of a lot of time into developing their respective technologies. You might want to go over to dvinfo's adapter section where there were oodles of discussion on gg choice, and quite a few clips of diy solutions and attempts. I'm sure to their are people who built their own adapters and own commercially available adapters for comparison. Personally I think low light and adapter is an oxymoron...like jumbo shrimp.

B-Roll should probably not be shot on an adapter either unless you are shooting close ups but a hallway you should have shot without the adapter. No need for shallow DOF there.

The only way to find out about the screens is to buy and try, not sure if anyone that has done it already is going to let the cat out of the bag and tell you how they made theirs. Thats like shooting yourself in the foot and giving away the farm.
