when someone converts 24 fps footage to 30 fps footage and then add audio to the 30 fps that was originally shot for the 24 fps, but not converted to 30 fps w/ the video footage, is the audio knocked out of sync?
Since they are seperate clips, they would be out of sync once the timing on one is changed. You could adjust the time of the audio to match the video, but the audio will be pitched way up, chipmunk style. There is an option to keep the pitch of the sound, but there is quality loss when doing this and it wont sound natural in most cases, so it is a last resort.
This is if you are taking 24p footage and dumping it in to a 30p timeline frame for frame (so it is played back at 125% speed). If you meant you were putting 24p on a 60i timeline in the same timescale, then it will stay synced. I couldn't tell from your wording.
I exported my 24p (24fps) footage to AE7.0 to add an effect from Film Magic Pro (similar to Magic Bullet). Then exported from AE7.0 so I could import into Encore. Once I imported into Encore the footage became 30fps. I'm not sure why this happened. I exported from AE7.0 uncompressed (yielded a 145 gb file) that had to be transcoded upon import into Encore (automatically). For some strange reason the audio did not import with it. So I imported the audio separately, but I was worried it would be off a bit. Going to toy around with it some more tomorrow (can't tonight), so any additional advice would be greatly appreciated.
you probably added pulldown in the film magic pro step (Ive never used it but isn't it just some AE presets?)
make sure its a 24p comp and not 30p comp and also make sure you export it as 24p and not 30p
and also make sure that your footage has been interpreted properly (right click the clip in the project panel and choose interpret footage)
Film Magic Pro is a software program, like magic bullet, that adds a visual effect to the footage. It is used like a visual preset in AE (I'm not very familiar with AE).
When I exported the footage from AE I made sure that the audio was exported and the video was not changed from the original format.
When I loaded the footage into Encore (after export from AE) I noticed it was now 30fps and Encore wouldn't import the audio. I had to manually import the audio as an individual file.
I'm not really sure where I dropped the ball on this one. I really do appreciate the assistance guys!
