need to fake a person making and shooting up herion

We are making a short film about a sex worker and as a climax she overdoses on heroin. We want this to be as gritty and as real as possible.

We would like to make an effect that looks like when they cook the heroin in pulp fiction.

Along with this we would also like to maybe show someone shooting up. with a no budget productions with only a week to find props so shipping thing out to Australia is not that great of an option. WE are in need So thank you for your help

Looks like your actor will just have to shoot up the real thing. Why do you think so many actors go to rehab? Lack of preproduction.

Hey Brandon, a friend of mine saw your post and referred me to it. You can check out my short, UKP, which I shot for the DVX Dramafest - the main part of it's kinda boring, but the end sequence, I think, has what you're looking for, with some important notes:

1) make your "heroin" brown, not white (I intentionally made my prop white to keep in line with the idea that this couple is essentially well-off and can afford to purchase extremely pure cuts of the narcotic).
2) if your character is NOT well-off, financially, as most addicts are not, then another important detail to OMIT is the cap on the syringe (don't have the cap on there - in fact, lots of users will mix their heroin in the cap and then transfer it to the spoon to cook it).

You can watch the short at http://www.ourstage.com/video/channel/3-short-films/NETSAHSWSYSN-ukp

If you have any further questions I can try to help, but you could also just contact some real addicts to see just how gritty life can get.

Oh - you can try to get a syringe from a diabetic.

Contacting Real addicts is not the problem the problem is that we need to find what props to use. I like how you shot him actually shooting up and may take that from you. With your credit defiantly. We were looking into what prop you used for the actual melting and mixing of the heroin.

at some doctor's offices, they have a realistic slab of fake flesh that the nurses use to teach diabetics, patients, and care givers how to give injections. I used it to learn. the skin tone was realistic and it felt and looked a lot like real flesh as we practiced injecting it over and over again. you could try that...

Thank you all For the prop we ended up using 2 different things one for the look of heroin and the other for the actual lighting up an cooking the heroin.

the look prop was a mixture of sugar powdered sugar and cinnamon.
and to cook it we used just powdered sugar.
