Northwest Airlines Broke My DVX

My plane was so small on this evenings flight that I had to gate check my kata panda bag....

when i got home the entire front of the camera part comes off ..... plastic snapped the only way this would have happened is someone dropped it from way high up.....

the camera still turns on but the front will not stay on.... any ideas on places for repairs
looks like besides using some duct tape for a while my camera is ruined

see in the white line on the picture... that entire front piece comes off.... its only connected by the wire that connects that lense to the camera

although its almost like i could just put a bunch of super glue on and hope for the best...
has this happened to anyone else......

i can't believe this happened.... they refused to allow me to just carry the cameras on and put them in my lap.... i even informed the guy that was gate checking the bags to please be careful.... I guess he took it the wrong way and purposly broke the camera ..... what a bunch of worthless people ....

Sorry bro,
I still don´t see exactly what came of - are you talking about the lenshood?
That´s the plastic part with LEICA on it...
It can be de-/attached by unscrewing the locking srew and twisting it (CCW I believe...)
Or is it shattered / split in half?
If so, I wouldn´t bother getting another, but rather go straight for a snap-on matte box...
Or is the lens itself broken?
That of course would be really bad...
Anyways, checking in your cam in a softbag wasn´t a good idea, most people use Peli cases or alike for this...
You could also have taken the cam out of the bag and carried it, no one can argue about that at the DVX´s size...
Hope it is only the lenshood, all the best!

Same thing happened to me with my DVX100A a while back I shipped it in a pelican case with a heavy wide angle adapter on it. I guess the vibration from the plane broke the lens off. The part that broke was the FIXED RING ASS - PART # VDW0855 - it's only $11.57. You can easily replace it with a small philips.

Every now and again, I am in a situation where I have to check my pelican case with the people. Offhand, I don't remember the Pelican case number (1510?) but its the largest case they have that is still FAA approved for overhead storage. When I get to my destination...I will take it to a somewhat discreet place while still at the airport and open her up to make sure all is good. So far, I've never had a problem but if were you I would not have left until they heard ALL of my complaints, they documented it, they gave me a copy of the doc of it and they gave me some indication that SOMEthing would have been done. Sure, it might have been futile but you are talking to someone who spent 3.5 hours on the phone with DELL (no lie. I wanted to flame throw the entire company) trying to get them to replace the $hit motherboard they put in my laptop. You have GOT to be a squeaky wheel otherwise the MAN will screw you over.

PS Its official btw. I hate Dell.

wow thats a relief :) exactly what it is...

i wonder if the part is different for a b model... guess if something had to break this is it.... hopefully I have the skills to put it together
