I don't have old vinyl records....

That's pretty cool... but you can always go from your stereo with a turntable straight into your soundcard too. It would save you 190 bucks. Maybe you get a cleaner audio signal from the USB?

I think it's mostly a matter of convenience--you can set the USB turntable right next to your PC, rather than lugging your other turntable, preamp, and god knows what else you'd need from wherever they are to wherever your PC is. Plus, this might be better for people with integrated sound rather than an actual soundcard...

And there's a company called Numark that makes a version of this that (IIRC, anyway) is quite a bit cheaper.

I've got nearly 500 vinyl albums with nothing to play them on. Almost all from the mid 60s to mid 70s.

I've still got my Dual turntable, and just purchased a $30 preamp to feed my sound card capturing with Garage Band (Mac Pro). I'm mostly capturing stuff not readily available on CD, like old Beatles, etc. (Yes, I'm old enough to have an original Sgt. Peppers, etc.)

I've read where the USB devices are not as good, poorer freq response, or something.
