Laptop, would u run XP or Vista

Just bought a Sony Vaio laptop. (1.86DUO< 1GB RAM, 2mb L2, Shared Video)

It came preloaded with Vista Home Premium.

If you were going to run Adobe Pro Collection 2.5, would you wipe of Vista and install XP, or leave it? Please give reasons.

I know that 2.0 will not run on Vista for me, and I believe that what you have will run.
Check Premiere's site for the suggested hardware and O S to see.

Are you planning to edit with a lappy? I'm not so sure that's the way to go, I'd bet captures will be a nightmare. And the shared video tells me you may have to up the RAM because most shred video systems hace 512 dedicated to graphics.

Cheers

i would ditch vista. its not really finnished yet. MS always rush their opporating systems, which means that really their OS is finnished when they stop releasing service packs for it. I've heard that MS already know what fixes will be included in SP2, but they haven't even released SP1. Get yourself a copy of XP pro 32bit. it's currently the most stable and efficent version of XP i have used. it does have some limitations when it comes to ram though. if you have less than 2 gig though you won't have any issues.

Basicly 2.5 was writen for XP, CS3 should be much more vista orientated but i don't know. i do know that some editers that i have spoke to say that PPRO CS3 is pretty sketchy with HDV on Vista, but i haven't tryed myself.

If you can see if you can put a graphics card in you laptop, some you can upgrade later. this will make a big difference to the performace of you comp as the OS will have full acess to all of your ram.

also on the videoguys web page they have a massive document about how to optimise XP for video editing. if you can get your head round it i would recomend doing everything they say, and then probably some more as well. the deal with windoze is that it tryes to do lots of otherthings you can't see it do in the background while your working. this isn't what you want as an editor, the best thing to do is try to get rid of as many backgrround processes that aren't essential to running your software. if you press CTRL ALT DEL then look at the taskmanager and look to see howmany processes you have running. the aim of this game is to get as small a number that you can possibley get with out XP losing some of its functionality when it comes to your program. I managed to get to about 23 before, i had some really geeky help though.

hope this helps
