Going back to Cali, Cali, Cali....

In two weeks, I move back to Cali. This time I am going to the central coast (Santa Maria). For 8 years I lived in the LA area. Its a bit surreal. I never thought I'd go back, considering I kind of dig NY. But I brought my girlfriend out there twice; once to meet my sister and another time to hang with my sister and her husband. My girlfriend absolutely fell in love with it.

So, with mixed feelings but an optimistic heart I say...

KIMKO, TOMMYINLA, BRANDON RICE and BLAINE.....I'M A COMIN' FOR YA...!!!!!

(and whomever else I forgot)

2 weeks. Probably the 21st. But we are driving. Which I LOVE. But we don't have time to sightsee. We have to beat the movers.

So, we'll probably be settled in the week before labor day. Just in time for football! One of the MAJOR things I missed about Cali...games start 3 hours early!

I've made the drive from kentucky to la quite a bit and it can be fun, but if you don't have time to stop and sightsee it is pure hell for me.

Awesome! Yeah, I missed LA when I left a few years ago and came back.

Let me know when you get here and we'll get together with a bunch of people and have a few beers.

Yeah Matty G....I desperately want to stop and see stuff. My GF is on a mission to get out there. I can't blame her. She has a job waiting for her so she wants to get settled in first. So, we'll probably whiz by every cool landmark.
PS Id love to go the southern way...Kentucky, Alabama, Tennesse, etc. I just want to see more of the country. When I did it several years back (Thousand Oaks to NY) we went straight through the middle of the country.

Tommyinla....its not that I didn't love Cali. I LOVED it. But, it never felt like home to me. So, to move back is very VERY surreal for me. Like these past 6 years back home have been a dream...I will wake up in Cali in a few weeks and lean over to my girlfriend and say "I just had the weirdest dream. I dreamt I went back to NY, went back to school, and hooked up with my friends and family all the time.......weird dream".

But totally....beers are very welcome. LA is my former stomping grounds...

i see that georgia was inexplicably left off your "tour of the south". should i consider this a mere coincidence or should i treat it as a personal attack?

What? rlm you left me out! oh, no, this just can't be! Okay, so I don't know you, but hopefully when we have our next meet, we'll hook up. By the way, don't ask me to play air hockey with you, I found that the guys here, uh, have no coordination, well, after 3 beers anyhow...

I'm only going to be out there for a few days... but I'll be in the LA area from the 27th or 28th through the 1st... bringing my girlfriend for a little break from STL. We'll probably do some of the generic stuff out there... Disney and/or Universal... and I'm hoping something good is playing at Mann's... my previous girlfriend denied me from seeing The Matrix at Mann's... and I knew nothing about it so I figured no big loss... D'oh! It's only one of my favorite movies ever... so I'm kind of wanting to UNDO a sh*tty trip with my last GF and make this one what I wish the last one would have been.

We'll also be doing Venice Beach one day... so if you want to see how fat I am that would be cool also.

I'm sure my GF would be irritated if I made our getaway about the DVXusers... but I'd love to meet some of you guys in person!

Charli, of course I'd like to meet you, but if it's just you then my girlfriend will go into super-jealous freakout mode! It would be cool if a few of us could get together... what would be ideal is if a GROUP of us could do something with our spouses, or whatever.

I'm the most horrible LA DVXuser Denizen. I think I've only met three or four DVXusers here in LA. I am suck.

Those are the dates Tommy... I got the tickets already. Arrive 28th around 10a... return 1st about 3p... I just checked 'em. I know a few people out there that I like... there's a pretty cool guy on here that doesn't post much, but he's got a great sense of humor... the thing is I wouldn't want to give a bunch of people the impression that I could stop by on all different days, but I WOULD plan my trip around something that would involve a group... like if anybody wants to do Disney or Universal... or some studio thing... or dinner/drinks kind of thing... basically what I would like to do ideally is hang out with some DVXusers in a way that wouldn't give my girlfriend the impression that I'm selling her short... know what I mean? If I meet ONE person and hang out with them then it's pretty obvious that we're making that person more important then my girlfriend... but if we could do something as a group... or even a double-dating type of thing... I think my girlfriend would really enjoy herself... it's just when I get around people with similar interests I stop talking to her and that's when the problems start... but I'm good in a group. Everybody with any sense of humor will have a good time.

I know what you mean. I know quite a few people we can pull together for a nice dinner and a few drinks. I'll send you a PM a few days before you leave to get your contact info. We can even swing by the Santa Monica pier one of the days... or whatever. Should be fun. :)

Dang Matt...I'd definitely be up for that. But realistically speaking, I probably won't get there until about the 27th or 28th (I think we begin our trek around the 22nd). And of course, they'll be crap to when we get there...get settled in etc....

But, even though I wouldn't be too jazzed about moving back to the LA area...I'd love to take a couple hour drive and get back down there. The closer I get to leaving here for there, the more I realize I miss it.

But I'd LOVE to meet up with a few of you on here. It's much easier to crack jokes and make fun of stuff in person. On this forum, I come off too dry which really isn't the case...

Matt...DEFINITELY check out http://www.americancinematheque.com/ and click on The Egyptian Theater. If I remember correctly, its on Hollywood Blvd. about 1-2 miles south of Mann's Theater. The schedule appears to need an update (it doesn't want to go past the 29th) but they often will show a classic movie there and will have the director do a Q&A period afterwards. Its very cool. Before I left for NY I went there to see Cool Hand Luke and the director Stuart Rosenberg spoke and told some incredible stories....

Charli...how could I forget you? You are some of my inspiration. Chucking it all and moving down to the big bad city...ala Mary Tyler Moore...whenever I see your avatar I find myself humming the tune "you're gonna make it....afterall....". Now only if your avatar was a picture of you throwing a beret up in the air....

Matt - I totally understand, sort of figured that when I didn't hear back from you, I suppose if I were butt-ugly it wouldn't be a problem, lol, okay, I'm not butt-ugly but I'm no Julia Roberts either.

rlm - ah, if only I wore a beret.

Matt - let's all hook up in Venice with the freaks, walk down the shops on the beach, throw a freesbie, a football, oh, man, Tommy, let's play some beach football!!
