This sounds crazy to me???

Greeting fellow film makers...I just Got my letus35 FE and purchased a 50mm Canon FD Lens from Ebay. When I got the lens I tries to make an aperture adjustment and I noticed it wasn't stepping up or down. The aperture seems to be non functioning.

I contacted EBAY seller and he told me that the aperture would only work on the camera. IS THAT CORRECT? All the other lenses I have I can adjust the aperture and watch aperture blades open and close. I put the lens on the letus and no change?

is there a secret society of ninja lenses that only work mounted to certain cameras?

Any thoughts would be great?

I have an olympus evolt that only uses "digital" Zuiko lenes that are powered by the camera itself meaning that the lens will not focus unless the camera is turned on, and I know that canon makes ef-s lens that are ONLY made to work with canon cameras......

Thanks for the Feedback. I am still having troubles getting the aperture to move. If I push the blade-like switch over and roll the aperture ring nothing happens. What am I missing.

Here are some pics...

I then adjust aperture and it still does not move?

you have to stick something in therre to hold it in place. I put folded tinfoil in there, works like a charm. I use Canon FD's and the aperture works perfectly after doing this trick

I busted mine the same way, I dropped it and the whole thing came apart. I could not put it together try as I might.

Someone might have sold you a unit that was busted, probably fell out of their hands.

Busted?
it is not Busted.
...
Let me see if I can dig up Timur to help us.
I need to preform this same mod on my lenses tonight or tomorrow.

that specific lens, the kind that have the silver release button cant have theri apeture changed. it sucks donkeys.... i have a 24mm thats liek that and it DRIVES ME INSANE. Im bidding on one that doesnt and im willing to pay like 300$..... its so irritating to not be able to adjust apeture.

Hey I think I have the silver button kind and I just got mine to iris down.

Jason ... make sure you are testing it with the lens mounted on a canon mount.

Maybe remove the silver switchable mount ring from your letus - that way you can work with the back of the lens while mounted.

Anyway, the lens must be mounted and twisted all the way on until it clicks, then if you do the Q-tip hack it should turn ... Q-Tip hack and not mounted = no apeture turn ... No Q-tip hack and mounted = no apeture turn. Only Q-Tip hack AND mounted = Aperature turn.

So this is the lens I just got this to work on:

here is the back ... I used a piece of black zip tie instead of a Q-tip, looks more like part of the camera.
Is that the Metal Button you meant on the left Timur?

IRIS CLOSED ALL THE WAY:
with the Q-Tip hack and mounted to the canon side of the Letus mount (removed from letus obviously)

IRIS OPEN ALL THE WAY:
Again with the hack and mounted to the Letus mount

So mount it to something Jason ... either the Letus or the back lens cap or a camera and see if it works then.
Lemme know!

Ohhh Jack i like your 85mm. I want one of thoes. imtempted to just buy the 700$ 85mm F1.2 at B&H.....

Mine was $200 and you've played with it before :)
... but isn't it the same kind that this kid has?

I thought there were only two kinds, ones that didn't iris without the hack and ones that did?

ACtually kids, i just tried the Qtip trick, and HOLY Sh$T nuggets it works...... though, somethig about sticking Qtips into my lens makes me nervous.

Thats funny I just checked my lense and it does'nt let me change the apeture either. I have the lense that is picture in the video tutorial the Q-Tip hack is'nt woking on mine.

Great. So I think all Jason has to do is try to turn it while it is mounted to the point of clicking on an FD mount.

Timur if you don't like the Q-Tip thing, use thick black zip tie like I did or Snodart hand machined a peice of copper or something.
