Getting rid of the grainy look?

Just curious, but after a few more views of a few of dsjecta's films, I look back on my films and see a grainy look. I'm lighting properly and the GG is vibrating (Letus Flip Enhanced), but I'm not sure why I'm capturing this grainy look. Is it a camera preset? Or is it something I'm not doing properly?

Is your low gain set a -3 and your OIS is off.

Smithy, thanks for teh quick response. All gain is set to -3db and the OIS is off.

Make sure Auto Gain Control (AGC) button is switch to off as well. Am assuming it's an A1.

Oh yeah. I guess I forgot to mention that. It's a Canon XHA1. The AGC button is off. Do you guys know how to export 16:9 still from FCP without having them squished? I posted a thread about it here:

I'd post stills from about 5 minutes ago (shot some footage outside) but I can't get the stills to come out in the proper aspect ratio.

I don't use FCP but maybe...is there a setting for export as a Tiff or PNG file vs JPG?

TIFF did the same thing. I guess I'm just going to have to live with it until I can show someone in person.

Try opening the file up in another program like photoshop and see if it is still squished.

Has anyone else experienced grain with the Letus? I know that the footage I have seen from the HVX + Letus exhibits grainy images. But, it wasn't exactly anything that was horrid at all.

I think when FCP exports 16x9 stills it does so in an anamorphic mode. Have you tried resizing them to 16x9 proportions in photoshop?
