1st ever DVXuser 3D Short Film collaboration?

Anhar, everything is looking good... At first I thought that pre-viz was a short film, not a trailer, and thought I was missing the whole story... I think it works as a trailer though.

Figured I'd post some stills from a short trailer we did awhile back... We shot in a real jail (the cell drawings were real), maybe they'd help as reference pics for a cell or hallway. Not sure if they'll help much, but figured I'd post em, they might inspire some ideas for lighting or modeling...

The first still was the end title card, bars and jail cell modeled in 3d studio and text created in AE. It worked for what I wanted to do, but I could probably improve the model a lot and contribute that.

Let me know what you need help with.

Ok, heres a sneek Peek, I've started the work on the Hand Gun:

Work In progress:

I've got a long way to go but the basics is there.

yes its 3ds max,

thanks again for the screenshots, when I need stuff for the project I'll drop a post, cheers Taylor!

cheers man

there is a ton of more detail left, I could use a texture map, BUT it would look fake on close up (and the camera is gonna come REAAALY close) so I don't care if it ends up being half a million polygons, but I want it too be good :)

Just not finding the spare time to make progress on the model (got work and other stuff) but as soon as I get my spare time I'll be pushing ahead.

thanks man! Can't wait to see the results

I've been really busy working this week and not had a change to make progress on the project, but I'm just looking for some spare time to crack on :)

Is anyone else having problems with photobucket? None of the pictures are showing on my computer. None here either except drummerboys and the avatars & sigs.
Hopefully it's temporary. I can't even get on their site.

Sounds like a good idea, its been done over and over again though with not too good outcomes. One Star Wars short film direct for eg ( wont say any names )

Mr X got heaps of animators to help him get started with promises of getting everyone to be noticed and to the top in the film industry, i know I applied to help and recived an email outlining his goals and if your work is A1 youll get somewhere....... Thing is looking at all his comments he was more about promoting HIMSELF and the way he got people from all over the world to get his short film made. More like telling people what a good DIRECTER he is.

Hes now pushing for people to finace some upcoming project. ( He's not mentioning what it is ) Thing is no more mentioning of those of whos shoulders he stood on to get himself where he is today.

End of the day you should pay for people to animate a project, after all if you have a script good enough get it copyrigted. Then sell it to people who have online resumes / showreels showing the hard efforts and tallent they have to sell you....

I personaly will not work for free now and without a contract. Time is money and sometimes its best not to waste it on someone elses project.

re: above.

I think this one is for enjoyment. Alot of people around here work for free for other DVXusers. Most of the projects are non profit and are done for the love of doing. And allows complete creative freedom.

There's several people around here that offer their services mostly for free to other dvxuser's in the festival area. Without them dvx would not be the kind of community that it is.

I still agree with what you said, I don't think it applies here or to alot of dvxuser projects. Some do , some don't.
I think common sense would dictate how to handle it.

Man, I really need to get into this 3D stuff... I just installed the Lightwave demonstration version. I'm going to pick up a few books... please tell me it's not that hard to do...

Congrats man for taking the first step, and no ist not that hard, but what you do need is the motivation to "keep going" once you get over the "What the hell is this?" part :) things get easier + more fun to do.

I'm bogged down with work, but I'm chipping away at this project none the less, its just a question of "free time".

I've got faith in this project, and it aint about making a profit, I just want to learn and welcome anyone else to learn with me, I don't care if people say it turned out crap, well at least we can say "yes it was crap but we learned from it, and next time we can make it less crappier :)"

Well, as soon as I figure some of this stuff out, count me in on the project. I don't know how much I can contribute since I don't know a whole lot right now. I've got some experience with modeling though with Solidworks. I modeled an alternator from a car in Solidworks as well as a handful of other stuff. I'll see if i can find some images... :)
