I know this is a couple days old but I thought I would post it. It just goes to show how sleazy Michael Bay is. Granted, Willis shouldn't have said what he said, but it's Bruce F'ing Willis. He's earned the right to tell people they suck. For Bay to come in and say "Well let's compare the action in our two films", not only is that juvenile and low-class, but the action in Transformers sucked! (please see my review of the movie in the movie reviews section). It was hackneyed and hard to figure and the exact same sh*t he put in all his other movies. I'm not saying Live Free had great action (it had a couple of good sequences) but if we're going to compare, let's compare the entire body of work. Hmmm, Die Hard or The Island...??? Sorry Mr. Bay, but without Bruce Willis, you wouldn't even have a career.

i don't see anything that inflammatory. bay's response was that the initial attack was probably a publicity stunt and people should compare the action in the two movies. not that big of a deal in my opinion.

Well, that's really debatable. I thought the action in Transformer was great. All the semi-decent sequence in Live Free had already been given away in the trailer, everything else is your basic "bad guy can't hit the side of a barn" shoot-out. Some sequence in Transformer left my mouth hanging and none of the Live Free one did.

Yea, MB is an arrogant ass to be making that comparison at all, but I can see where he's coming from.

Michael bay is also a Commercial Director. HE comes from the fast paced TV AD world. So like they need things done yesterday. Considering how much coverage he shoots in his films its a wonder the DP and the editor dont explode. I personally have a LOVE/HATE thing for Michael Bay. His visualls are ground breaking, but sometimes uneccesary. i thikn he should make Music videos, and TV commercials. But he makes TONS more money as an action film Director. so more power to him. But i think its ok for him to defend himself against someon who slams his work or him, regardless of who is right.

Yeah have to agree - I like Bruce Willis, though if he slams anyone for anything I think they have a right to a reply, just as MB did. Didnt seem to over the top for me. In fact the title says "hits back" was a pretty mild "HIT back".

Oh, I thought this was someone posting how San Francisco was low rent. I was thinking, compared to what?! Dubai?

I've never liked anything MB has done. I like Bruce Willis, but I'll have to say I have more sympathy for MB than BW, from reading that article. It's probably misrepresented.

I'd much rather work with Bruce Willis than Michael Bay, that's for sure.

I liked Pearl Harbor and Armegeddon for what they were; but I am wondering if Bay will ever do anything beyond the sugary stuff he is doing; does he have anything personal on his list ?

does he have anything personal on his list ?
Bay's list consists of nothing more than cliched dialogue and the same tired old shots he uses over and over and over again.

Oh yeah, sprinkle in some hot girls and you've got your a Michael Bay 'film'.

Maybe Bay will eventually have some sort of mental breakdown and start making good films (or at least one gem). His technical skill is great imo. He lacks heart.

Awww come on. I enjoyed Transformers! The guy does what he does well, at least give 'em credit for that.

Although, I do like John's proposed question: When's it get personal?

By the way... I love the shot in Transformers when Starscream transforms right above Sam's head; it's really epic.

I take it by reading many of his post c.g. will not be joining the Michael Bay fan club anytime soon.

Bay is lets face it not the most creative or experimental director out there...but he is a great manager of the mega money movie set, and yes his visuals are usually very stunning and technically correct. Don't expect A Clockwork Orange out of him anytime soon.

yea but thats not what he does. I thin people are missing thepoint on MB. He makes sugarball movies. thats what he does. thats his Clockwork orange. he makes every movent a mini movie within itslef. Just watch one of his films, and see how mundane actions become an ordeal. like answering a phone. its like 5 flash cuts an explosion and projection on the actor pickign up the phone, "hello"......

He changed the way visuals were used in TV commercials and Films. credit where its due.

^^ Exactly. It's his staple, and like it or not, everyone pretty much recognizes that it's HIS staple.

Can't hate on the man for doin' what he does best: himself.

my favorite quote by him is this... "I make movies so i can buy ferrari's"..... Awesome.

I've liked all/most of MB's films. But i heard at a point Steven S asked him if he would like to Direct Transformers and MB continuely denied. I don't know any sane person who would deny such an offer. I don't quite understand why he denied at first. Though there's been a hell of a lot of talk over the way he directs.

Jerry Bruckheimer has continuesly produced with him on The Rock, great film, Armageddon, great film, Bad Boys I-II, good films.

However he didn't work with him on

The Island, okay film but not the best imo.

I'm seeing Transformers tommorow. So it should be interesting if there's any real difference there. Though to be one sided, i am a real JB fan at the end of the day. I've got nothing against Bay, except when he's a stuck up arragent b@st!rd.

Appologies for spelling, having one of those nights. x_X

I think, in an interview, he said the idea sounded really stupid. Cars transforming into robots.

Yeah that's it. That comment really stuck in my mind, a perfect example of when he doesn't know when to just leave it as 'No, but thanks' instead of continuing on. The guys got skill, i grant him that. Just the attitude let's him down I think.
