Just FYI, Q6600 G0 run @ 3.6GHz for $300

You can purchase a revised Q6600 (G0 stepping) for only $300 now and it will run at 3.6GHz or higher with the right motherboard which could run you about $200... that means you'd have a 14GHz system if you use Raylight...

...just wanted to make sure that all the guys who answer my questions and teach me about Vegas were aware of this.

They are tated at 95W as opposed to 110W which is a big indicator for higher OC-ability... now we finally know for sure, yes they OC significantly higher

They also upped the tCase to 71C, so now you are completely safe if your cores read anything around say 65C under full load, which helps in a big way. The earlier B3's reached close to that at "only" 3.0GHz on air.

And of course, but worth mentioning again, the price got nearly slashed in half. You can get one by about Aug 20th for $300 from TankGuys.com the old one was about $550

NOTE: you have to take a look at motherboards and air cooling before you take the 3.6 for granted... there is a possibility that 680i mobos will only reach 3.0 however P35 mobos are (apparently, as of yesterday and today's findings) going to basically guarantee you 3.5GHz

Great news for those who really need that much power. I'm more than satisfied with my dual-core 3.2ghz.

I can't get full screen preview and my 24fps preview on Auto is still not 100% but close, so I feel guilty about the upgrade... I am hoping however that I might be able to throw some filters on the Auto preview and it might hold up, which is something I wanted to try... render times will help too as that's yet an other thing I over-do...

...my problem is I am too noob in the editing arena, so I second guess myself a lot, I renter all the time and I change things a million times, just have to try everything possible... the chip won't change that but it might help make it easier on my brain...

I think I should probably concentrate on shortcuts a bit more too, lol

It all just takes practice. Sometimes you have to stop worrying about the technical aspects of editing and just focus on the creative.

what are you guys cutting?

Raylight Green plays fullscreen 72024p perfectly on my 3.2ghtz P4. are you refering to 1080?

You'll see when you get it, man. Dual Core just doesn't cut it for me anymore and can't wait to get my Quad back. Penryn will only be better.

Render times get chopped in half or better, previewing is butter, H264 playback is slick... Quad is just better and @ 3.6Ghz it's dangerous.

See how Audi feels like it, and he had it on OSX so he must have had great performance with Duos anyway...

I am cutting 1080p with Raylight Green ans I get 24 97% of the time and holds up throught most transitions... but I have several video tracks now and audio tracks as well...

BBallPlayer, yes, I agree... I have been focusing on the technical aspects cause I just recently took the dive and purchased equipment after several years of thinking about it and only acting and helping other filmmakers hosting a small TV show and working in hollywood crews and standing in a whole lot here in LA... so I never went to film school like you guys and I am looking at this sort of as my classes... I an trying to teach myse;f with the inmense help of you guys and the forum...

I am cutting a project that was rushed by inept co-producers, so I am sorta stuck trying to make it better in post and having a hard time... also new to coverage cutting... the projects I was able to sit in editing sessions for were all extensively pre-produced and storyboarded so it was much more straight forward...

I am shooting a short (like 2-3min) joke tipe short, as in it is basically just a joke... that will be more focused on performances directing and story telling... wish me luck...

back on topic, Audi is the guy to ask about this... he owned both Q6600 (B3) and E6600's... both basically maxed out for air, unfortunately he only had that consumer program, what's it called... oh yea, FCP

Update...

ASUS P5K has hit 4.0GHz (limited by cooling)
EVGA 680i board has hit 4.0GHz (limited by cooling)
ASUS P5N32-E has hit 3.4GHz

It seems there are many chips out there hitting the same high numbers and it is slowly becoming official that Q6600 G0's will get you into 15GHz + territory with the right board...
