Book / Page Insert – How To?

hello there.

i need to shoot page inserts for a couple of scenes in my film. basically, i have already shot the character looking down at his manuscript, reading pages from his play (he's a playwright). now i need to do POV shots, showing close-ups of words / phrases. i thought of going digital, using old paper photo files (i have them in super high res) as background and inserting text over them – could use Photoshop / After Effects / Final Cut...

a couple of movies that use inserts are "requiem for a dream" and "thumbsucker". in requiem the shot is fixed, whereas in thumbsucker there is a pan over the page, which looks like it has been done digitally... i would rather do a pan, too.

any thoughts/suggestions on how to treat text so that it realistically blends on the page? what's the best font for the job?

any tip would be greatly appreciated!

why not do it the physical way and print it and put it through some aging .. something like steam and hot lights and whatnot?

i'd rather do it digitally for two reasons:

(1) to have more control over camera movements, making them really smooth (don't have the right equipment to do it for real)

(2) also, in order to bring out more the texture of the paper...

i'm almost sure they did it digitally in thumbsucker? see scene here (starts at 30 seconds in)

cast my vote for AE also, to texture the paper is 'Oh So Cool' in AE I'm sure you know that it you are an AE user, and since you have 'super high rez' of the words/phrases you should be all set...

Loved your webpage BTW, very clean look, very tastefully done... Good luck on the shoot,
