Guriella Filmmaking...Lighting on the fly...

Other than an on camera light (I have the Superbright VIDLED Light) is there anything else I could use for on the fly portbable lights that I can set up and break down quickly? The shoot is going to be at night in a park in a city. After contacting the local film office yesterday they claim that I am going to need a permit to shoot there and if a certain statue is visible in the shot, I need to pay a fee to the designer of such statue as well! I am usually the kind of person that goes by the book but this is one time where I am going to have to do a run and gun type shoot...get what we need and get out of there!

The shoot is a music video location and the artist is not trying to pay for permits and fees. Ive shot things in that park before and never was bothered by anyone about permits. We just need to shoot with this statue behind the artist...

I won't be able to use a generator to power the lights. The park is lit at night but its not bright. The shoot would be better during the day, but its usually packed with tourists and what not and would make shooting a nightmare without those permits.

If this is a commercial project I wouldn´t risk being sued for filming the statue (I guess if you "NEED to shoot with this statue behind the artist" the statue gets some kind of importance in the video so the artist can demand his share, however high this might be, maybe you can just ask first to get it for free...?)
For the lights, no generator means battery powered light, so buy more VidLeds :2vrolijk_08:

Here any shoot with less than 3 crew shooting on public property and filming at public property doesn't require a permit.
Filming a statue does not require paying a fee to the statue's designer if it is on public property rather than private property. Airing footage of the statue is another thing altogether. Your distributor and his legal team will deal with that when clearing the film.

Chances are the person at city hall you talked to gave you information based on you being a large production company who will park dozens of trucks on city property and have a 9 figure budget.

We are not talking film or documetary here, I never heard that this is done for productions like musicvideos, where basically everything can be taken care of in pre-production...
Maybe if the whole concept is capturing spontanious, unpredictable things...
Anyhow, why is that statue so important?
Is the song about it?
Why dealing with all that hassle when you could just choose a different BG?
It doesn´t sound like a big budget production so why bother?
