Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here... and yep, that's the title of Book 7, the final book in the HARRY POTTER series. HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS. The title will take some getting used to. It doesn't have that immediately satisfying ring that something like HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE does, but I'm sure when we finish the book the title will fit better than any other.

Methinks the Deathly Hallows will be a place young Mr. Potter gets to visit some long lost friends, but that's just a guess. Probably 100% wrong since Mrs. Rowling always seems to be two or three steps ahead of me.

As a fan of the books and the films, I eagerly await this final book. Hope it's a perfect capper to the series... she has the chance to really solidify her work as being the Wizard of Oz for this generation, something that'll live for decades, if not centuries, after she's gone. I know in my travels this year, I went all over the world and one consistant was Harry Potter. From Spain (Harry Potter's face in ice cream store windows) to Prague (Harry Potter marionettes hanging in damn near every shop) to New Zealand and the UK... Potter's a world phenomenon the likes we haven't seen since perhaps 1977 when Lucas released Star Wars.

Here's hoping the legacy is cemented with a fantastic last book. At the very least it has to live up to HALF-BLOOD PRINCE which is one of the stand-out best books of the series so far.
Sort of a strange sounding name but I can't wait to read it.

Hopefully this one will be twice as long as the fifth book to make up for the paltry length of book sixth. She's got a lot of loose ends to wrap up.

The whole of the final chapter is supposed to tell what happens to each "surviving" member of the main cast.

Do we know that that'll be the name in the US? It does sound a bit odd, but remember that the Sorcerer's Stone was called the Philosopher's Stone originally; they changed the title for the US (presumably because our generation of kids would be turned off by the word "philosopher" I guess).

I don't know. I think books 2-6 all had the same US and UK titles, though, so I assume that 7 would fall in line with the recent tradition.

The HP books are strange. I got into them because my girlfriend's nephew was reading them and have become addicted to these children's books. As someone with an English degree (I know, my spelling sucks) I have to say though, any time you can have a 10-14 year old reading an 800+ page book it sews the seeds for a life of appreciating the written word, and in that regard JK Rawling is brilliant and inspiring.

That was sort of off topic though, but the title does seem to be a bit odd... still I'm curious to see how she completes this series (which is epic in the terms of the Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia).

well if they mean what hallows mean in japanese terms hallows mean soul less people ... demons. that be cool

I hope Rowlings actually writes this one all by herself since it's the final chapter. The panel of writers is teh banned on this book.

Wait, so all the other books were writen by committee?

Is anyone else a big enough nerd to be going to the barnes and noble harry potter parties tommorow? ...and then wait in line for a book?

I certainly am.

I went to the midnight showing of the 5th movie... but I won't be reading the 7th book starting at midnight.

I'm still catching up with the books.

Here is the end of the book, if you really want to know it

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Harry gives up on becoming a wizard, goes to business school, finds success in the stock market, marries a fairly attractive interior designer, whom he has three children with. They buy a decent little house in the suburbs. Here are the last few lines of the book:
"Though Harry had no qualms with his stable life, he couldn't help but wonder what things would be like, had he not given up on being a wizard. He often dreams of it, but wakes up, at first disappointed, then relieved that he has a decent life, and concludes, once more, that being a wizard was just a silly pipe dream. The End"

you all know that its already leaked online right? i read it and i liked it a lot and i dont really like harry potter books. it sucked though cause someone got a copy of the book and took a picture of each page..... so i had to read pictures!haha

Lol, Billy, nice "spoilers"

Sorry but I have the real scoop, having read the online version you see.

SPOILER ALERT (FOR REAL THIS TIME)

Harry's link to Voldemort is fully explained. It turns out that Harry is actually Voldemort's son - Voldemort thus having only killed Harry's father metaphorically. This is all revealed in a staggering wand battle atop the Deathly Hallows, where Harry's hand is cut off. (and replaced with a flawless magic hand of course)

The love triangle between Hermione and Ron and Harry is resolved when it is revealed that Hermione is actually Harry's sister. Having run out on Harry's father, Harry's mother had shacked up with Hermione's dad - so yeah Hermione's mom is actually Harry's mom too.

In the end, magic is deemed too powerful a force for humans to wield without corruption, so Harry, due to his humble Muggle raised origins, is the only one able to carry his father's wand (the source of his powerful evil magic that Voldemort and son Harry both draw upon) to the top of a volcano and throw it in without succumbing to the temptation to keep the wand and become an all powerful wizard like his father.

After Harry destroys the wand and its magic he is happy to permanently retire to the ancestral home of his parents in a small town called Shire and have quiet conversations and eat lots of comfort food with friends. Having never been cut out for all this adventure in the first place, Harry is quite content there indeed despite the fact that somewhere along the way his feat had grown inordinately "harry", thus lending an unfortunate double meaning to his forename.

I'll get to observe the festivities tonight. Allison is an assistant manager at B&N and she roped me into being the photographer for the evening.
