Boycott Michael Vick, His Sponsors, The NFL

I am all for letting the legal system do its job. However, its already a prove fact that these fights were taking place on properties that he owned, and i would have a hard time believing that he knew nothing of what was going on. Nike is already halting the release of there new Vick shoe, so I am sure there are alot of people in the NFL and the Falcons worried about this.

The presumption of innocence only applies to the courtroom, he is guilty and I think they have the goods. This case has a lot of direct evidence.

I personally hope he gets life.

I can't stand the guy (well the guy 'I think' he is based on the media influenced opinion I've formed of him- never met him actually...) so personally I want him to be guilty, but that's part of the reason for having a justice system isn't it.....

And sure there's a big difference between the cases but the common denominator is that it's about justice and not accusations.
The issue is componded because we usually make up our minds during the first onslaught of media propaganda then never dig any deeper.
Like the White Soxs manager once said- "the farther you are from homeplate the easier it is to be right"

NFL is not at fault. If a postal worker shoots 5 employees, should we boycott the US postal service?

I'm going to wait to see how the court proceedings go.

We all know animal abuse is wrong, but we don't know the role Micheal Vick had in the scandal.

You're not getting my point. The NFL pays Michael Vick his exorbitant salary. His sponsors add to that. Michael Vick used that money to set up an illegal operation that abused and killed a lot of dogs. Indirectly, they've financed that operation, albeit unknowingly. Well, now they know. Even if Vick is found not guilty, or was not involved in anyway (which is absurd) a property he owned was the site where a lot of this abuse and crime took place. A property he bought with his ridiculous salary and endorsement money.

Therefore, now that this has been brought to light, guilty or not, I think the NFL should sever their ties to him. I got no problem with the NFL. But I cannot tolerate Vick's irresponsibility (I think he's guilty, but I'll use a nice word), and I don't think his employer should either.

i had the good fortune to foster a Pit this year. my girlfriend and I came upon a dog while exiting of the local Wal Mart parking lot one evening around dusk. we weren't originally sure of the breed, thought we were only getting into a weekend commitment, and had no idea all of the potential obstacles to a good adoption facing this wonderful dog. first thing we learned is that we probably did not want to find her previous owner and second thing we learned is that you have to very carefully screen anyone interested in her. a lot of people have very bad intentions for this breed.

Pits are born with two strikes against them. What people do with these dogs would absolutely break your heart. (as obvious from the Michael Vick story). And my understanding is they are the first real American dog breed ... that came about because dog fighting was considered a "gentleman's sport" in the early 1900's. Despite their origins, these dogs are rarely aggressive towards people, but it is often in their makeup to be animal aggressive. Our dog, Ellie, was fine with everything except other female Pits. When we found her, she was 1.5 years old, had ears cropped to like 1 inch, scarring on her feet and nose, worms, and was not in great health. she had probably been used primarily for breeding and had been discarded after her most recent litter. she was very good around people, incredibly sweet, loyal, intelligent, big (65 lbs) and strong. She was also an absolutely gorgeous brindle color and had a sadness in her big eyes. she liked nothing better than to hang with us on the couch at night and watch tv. I've had Goldens and Labs all my life and they are wonderful dogs, but I must say there was just something extra special about her.

Pits are amazing animals, but in my opinion definitely need the right kind of owner (someone very responsible and not in it for ego reasons) and also need good advocates. In addition to having many people get them for fighting rings, shelters won't often take them in. So for the most part, strays are euthanized. We would have liked to keep her, but we already have a Corgie who is agressive towards other dogs and that was not a good match. We ended up having her for 4 months before finding her a very loving home in Birmingham, Alabama.

I went to Duke and am not a big fan of judging people before their due process (in light of what was done by the Durham DA in the recent lacrosse case). Having said that, I thought it was appropriate that they canceled the lacrosse season last year because as the school president said, it was not a time for games. I'll not be buying any Michael Vick related merch in the interim and think he should not be allowed to play until this is sorted out. The details of his indictment are revolting. The actions described went way beyond just fighting these dogs ... to killing them in varied cruel and sick ways. Anyone found guilty would be an extremely disturbed individual deserving of severe punishment.

I hope the silver lining to all this can be for people to learn more about a really great breed of dog and maybe find a way to help in the future. Following is a link to Ellie's Petfinder.com adoption page Link (disclaimer: the text is a little cheesy. i pass that one off on my girlfriend) and a link to a reputable National Pit Bull rescue Organization if anyone is interested in more info Link

So if someone commits a crime in your house and gets caught while you're out of town should your employer fire you?
I'm not defending the guy but again, until the gavel falls after the word "guilty" is read it's life like usual.

As for the Duke fiasco, robbing a team and a coach of a year of their lives (in embarrassment) because of false accusations proves the entire point of innocent until guilty.

i don't think anyone is questioning whether or not dogfighting took place there.

No no one is, the question is what Vick knew about what was happening in his blackened stable house and was he involved in anything that happened in his blackened stabled house.

my guess is that it speaks for itself. i also think that these are good prosecutors in that they aren't speaking out until the court date because what matters is there. (as it should be and not always is)

Prison Death Match!

I think the penalty for dog fighting should be to have the guilty be given rusty bayonettes and kept in a special prison where they have to fight to the death each week.

I'm not kidding. I mean turn about is fair play right? Keep souls and the relative value of life and food chain out of it. Your talking about another living thing with nerve endings and a sense of its on mortality. Seems fair to me.

... ok maybe not really. But I'd love to make a movie where that happens at least.

And I think the penalty for this type of animal cruelty should be as extreme as our society can possibly tolerate.

my neighbor actually breeds pitbulls. if enough people make a contribution to my paypal account, i will confront him tomorrow.

I'm naive because I choose to let the system determine the guilt? I'm naive because I admit I wasn't there, I don't know anyone involved and the only facts I know are based on the media that just wants to sell advertising.

What I do know from the little I've researched, that is scratchy at best, is that something was going on there, who it involved and who is linked to it I have no idea and I'm all for waiting for the justice system to run it's course and punish all those involved- whoever they may be, before I jump on any witch hunt.

Call my opinion naive but I have a little more faith in the system to condemn without knowing all the facts.

Is it possible that he owned a house and knew nothing of what was going on? Sure- I had two houses and never paid attention to what was going on in my rental, should my work punish me if underage kids were drinking in my other house? Come on, that's ridiculous and extremely naive.......
