1st ever DVXuser 3D Short Film collaboration?

So, what was the end result, live action & CG or just straight CG?

I'm interested in helping out. I'm using C4D and such...wouldn't mind throwing down on the titles and other mograph related goodness.

Live action with CG sets/VFX shots.

It just happens I need mograph goodness both at the start and end, welcome aboard!

ok, as promised the initial storyboards are up, the 1st one is my own rubbish hand drawing, the next one is the same storyboard but my younger sister re-did it again for claritys shake.

I'll give the breakdown of the four main VFX plan soon.

/oneinfiniteloop. as soon as the credits details is drawn up I'll give you a shout, in the mean time, any possibility of doing some kind of intro with that Title? maybe use some kind of gun logo somewere? thanks in advanced

VFX inital Plan:

VFX 1.0 Gun throw Slow-motion

This occurs in the second scene (the one that currently shows the gun being slammed onto the desk), this is now changed, the gun being thrown towards the camera but in slow-motion.

The planned Breakdown

High quality, highly detailed modelled CG gun (fully textured) composited against footage of guy pretending to throw a gun.

The last few frames (when the gun leaves the hand) will be slowed down and frosen, a large amount of lens blur can be applied to draw the focus onto the CG gun which will fly in slomo towards the camera.

VFX 2.0 Prison Cell

CG prison cell Set, camera pan down, guy handcuffed.

VFX 2.1 Prison Beating

CG set of prison cell and CG prison bars, footage of a guy being beating by police guards, shot will dolly in towards and past the CG bars.

VFX 3.0 Escape

CG hallway set, guy running, with camera following actor in direction of travel

VFX 4.0 Jump Shot

CG rooftops, camera tracked of guy jumping from one rooftop to the other

KEY VFX SHOT 5.0 Freeze time

FULL CG set, perhaps with alpha mapped (billboarding) characters "Froozen" people (extras) with main actors in real-time.

Any questions? further ideas? please give feedback.

Once everyone is agreed on these VFX shots, I'll do a simple pre-viz, and then we'll get the script guys to fill it in (using the pre-viz should help them get the timming right), this includes the dialouge and voice over.

Well, 3 of the VFX shots will use a prison Set, so I'll need lots of photographs of real prison cells, I know it might be hard to get decent location shots, but it would help massively, also some basic real world measuremts of a prison cell (eg room size, window size, number of prison bars and thickness).

So if there is any possible way of getting those photos, that would help hugely, thanks!

I'll look into it. I probably can't get actual prison photos but I'll look into measurement research, etc.

oh man, thats just perfect, it'll take me some days to re-create it, maybe some modification from that actual real one, but I can certainly gives me a starting point.

The pre-viz is being rendered as I speak. That should be up some time.

I thought it was perfect too.

I was looking around for a website that had at least 2 or 3 pictures from inside the same cell, and then I found that. I'm glad it helps.

Regarding the storyboards, do you really plan on holding each of those shots for 10 seconds?

That sounds fine. 90 seconds is a good length, so maybe instead of shortening the length, we could just have more cuts.

OK, the Pre-Viz is complete,

the video is up if you could make another thread in the Script writing section that would be ideal and use this screenshot along with the video link. Thanks

Hopefully the Pre-viz should help with fitting words and voice over to the images.

More cuts can be made easly if its the same "scene" otherwise I would have to build new sets for different scenes.

Thanks man, we'll see what lines come out of that, don't forget to mention that its a trailer and not a whole short film (hehe, well who knows if it becomes popular, it might turn into a short film).

If you could get photographs of rooftops, this would cool, since I need to model the rooftop scene.

also what kind of gun would an assassin use? if you could find reference photos of those that too would be ace!

I'll see if I can get the other 3d'ers to help me model as well.

The current modelling list is this :

* Hand Gun
* prison cell, and hallway
* rooftop
* freeze frame set ??

The last one I need ideas on, hopefully indoors, because to model an outdoor scene will be a pain (and beyond my skills, unless some else is willing to do)

Anhar...for the freeze frame set, I think taking a 360 degree panorama of a set then mapping that to a dome with some geometry camera projected would be best so that you can working a 3d cam move that will match the real cam move, or keep the main actors in place nad have the enviroment rotate around them. Much easier to manipulate and quicker to do. That way you're only modeling the props and not every piece of hte scene...the background can be a matte painting.

I'll be working on a title seq & logo when I can...maybe toss a few other things in here and there too. Hopefully this takes off and works out.

Thanks oneinfiniteloop, I hadn't thought of doing it that way, I think I might do some tests and see what works best.

I look forward to the intro motion graphics,

/bballplaya, I'll take a closer look at that hopefully.
