Difference between HVX200 PAL and HVX200E Pal?

I am wondering what is the difference between the HVX200 PAL and the HVX200E PAL?

I know that the HVX200E is for europe, shoots 50fps and is pal but what about the HVX200 PAL version? Are they the same specs? The company i'm looking to buy from has a 200 euro price difference between the two models!??

There aren´t diference. The PAL version of HVX200 is named HVX200E ... E to the (E)UROPE. All panasonic PAL product have de E final in theirs names.

The "pal HVX200" and the HVX200E is the same product and camera.

Basically correct, but let me also add that there are European PAL models, which have the "E" suffix as jm.Roberto said, but that there are also other PAL models for the Australia/NZ/southeast Asia market. Those have a "2" suffix, so there's the HVX200P (for USA/Canada), HVX200E (for Europe), and HVX202EN (for Aus/NZ/se Asia). All have identical feature sets.

This is where i am confused. Why would there be a HVX200 PAL? Could this be the US region version that is PAL?

There is no such model designation. There's the HVX200P, HVX200E, and HVX202EN. If they're advertising an "HVX200 PAL", it must be either an HVX200E or HVX202EN.

Barry I've come across this same issue looking at a couple of sites. They're offering HVXs at significantly cheaper prices than those available here in Australia. They offer:

- HVX200 Pal (cheapest)
- HVX200e (in the middle)
- HVX202en (most expensive)

I know that there are only the 3 model designations. My issue is whether there would be a problem for me (as an Australian owner/user) purchasing one of these "HVX200 Pal" cameras (I assume it's probably the HVX200e) for use here in Australia?

If purchased with a "Mack" warranty (it's what these websites are offering), will Panasonic Australia still accept the camera for servicing/repairs if it's an HVX200e and not an HVX202en (the proper Australian model)?

I checked this out once a couple of years ago with the Panasonic service place (there's only one) in Sydney. They'd never heard of a Mack warranty, let alone did they accept them. I'd say if you bought one, you'd be looking at paying for all repairs first yourself and then trying to claim the money back from Mack. And I've not read good things about how easy it is to contact Mack once you need warranty service.

Also, don't know about the Melbourne service centre, but in my experience the one in Sydney seems to initially attempt to blame the customer for faults. Eg. when I first got my DVX, (like, 2 days out of the box) the tape door decided it wouldn't open. I hadn't left a tape in it or anything like that, just shot a couple of tests and tried to eject the tape to play it back in my camcorder and the thing was just not having it.

The service centre said that the problem was caused by the customer forcing the door open to get the tape out. Not quite sure how they came up with that one, but the tape was still in it when it went to them (because I didn't want to force the door to get it out!) so I kind of lost a bit of confidence in them after that. They did still do the repair under warranty, and my point here is not to bash the service centre but to warn you - if you're trying to get Mack to pay for a warranty repair, they'll have a get out of jail free card every time if the service centre says that the problem was caused by you. It just adds an extra layer of uncertainty into what is already going to be a stressful situation.

You'll have to ask Panasonic Australia that question. I don't know if they would or not. Going with a gray market item takes money directly out of their pocket, so I can't see why they'd be overly enthusiastic to service one of those units. But maybe they would? I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't honor a third-party warranty from another country though.

I have no idea about this, but I do know that a couple of years ago Panasonic wasn't directly represented in Australia; it was handled by Rexel, a distribution company. Panasonic entered the market "as Panasonic" last year, so your experience might be very different from what would happen now. (or maybe not, I don't know, I'm just saying that I know for a fact Panasonic took over the marketing of their own products about 1.5 years ago).

Very interesting! Yes, it was Rexel that dealt with my DVX a couple of years ago, and I wasn't impressed. I had another problem with the camera (which was my fault) and after I got it back from its repairs (which I paid for, obviously) the focus was out. You'd set manual focus at the long end of the zoom, and as you'd zoom out it would lose focus. I told them there was a problem with the backfocus and I may have used the wrong term, but the tech guy insisted that the lens was supposed to work that way. He said that the 'push auto' button was meant to be used to bring the lens into focus when you were zooming. As this was one of the craziest things I'd ever heard, I rang Panasonic in the States and only after telling the service guy that I'd done this did they agree to look at the camera again. He did manage to fix it in the end, but you can imagine the state I was in, sending my baby away to these people!

Anyway, sorry to rant...just did a search for a support centre in Sydney and was directed to 'Insight Technical Support'. Hopefully they are better than Rexel!!
