Onboard Monitor Powering Solutions?

How much power does the XLR port output? Is it enough to power an on-board monitor by chance? I think the XL1 XL2 can do this, didn't know if HVX could or not.

Could you guys share some of your setups? How much more weight? how you're strapping batteries to the cameras for Handheld. etc

THanks.

I use a Varizoom battery that screws in at the bottom of my Totevison (lasts 3-4 h...)
If I need extra power I use a HVX battery with a VidLed adapter, either hang it at the tripod or velcro it to my Multi Rig wich I use for most off tripod shots...
If truly handheld, the HVX battery goes into a belt bag (are they called like this in english? it´s a belt with a little bag to put your purse, passport and keys in...)

Thanks for your response, Spartacus.
I don't think I can use the same battery as you for the Totevision but the VidLed Adapter sounds good. I can probably attach the Battery Bay to the back of the screen so that it doesn't need to be mounted to anything else, then I can just buy more HVX batteries.

Anyone know if VidLed is the only source for such a device?

Remember that the HVX batt is pretty heavy, I wanted it off the back for that reason...
SWIT offers an adpter which has a clamp to attach it to the camera handle...

Tekkeon MP3400 or the new 3450. The best universal external power supply for the money. Just picked up the new model 3450 for $117 at newegg.com

I found those same ones for 114 on Ebay. But instead went with the MP3300 because they're cheaper and I could get 3 instead of 2. Stacking them doesn't really make a difference to me either, though the USB deal is neat.

The batteries are sleek looking, I like em.

XLR on the HVX is for audio phantom power only (48V) - the xlr for 12v that I believe you are looking for is a 4 pin which the HVX does not have.

Regarding the MP3450:

- it replaces the MP3400, but has 50Wh instead of the MP3400's 56Wh; but now also includes 5V via USB to charge USB devices.

- it can be STACKED with a cheaper MP3450-10, which basically piggy-backs onto the MP3450 to double the capacity using a special cable. The Mp3450-10 can't be used by itself.

- a MP3450 and a MP3450-10 should be about $200.00 or thereabouts

I've found MP3450's for relatively cheap, which is good.

And, now that you mention the Mp3450 can't be used by itself, I'm glad that i went ahead and bought 3 Mp3300's. Use and charge, similar to the 3 x 8gb p2 card concept.

And it was only 150.00 totaly. Yay

No, you misunderstood - probably because I didn't explain it well :);
the MP3450 is totally usable by itself; but there's also a MP3450-10 that can be attached to the MP3450. It doubles the capacity of the MP3450.
The MP3450 is about $110-$120, the MP3450-10 should be about $80.00.

Both together look like this (top right):

Ah! Yeah I misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying duude. you know what actually made me look for those was your website. Those are some tight looking batteries and the case will work very well mounted on the top of the camera.

And, well, 3 Mp3300's ran me 171.50 after shipping but I think that's pretty good for the quality.

Hey i'm running a cheap in car type 7 inch lcd monitor for crane use etc, i'm nbot sure how its power consumption is compared to what you guys are using, but i run it off a li-po battery for a small electric model plane. battery is slightly larger than a box of matches and weighs very little, compared to the camera the weight it is not even noticable, weighs less than the wires from monitor to camera and battery. and the size i have lasts about 4 hours. but there are a wide range of sizes available.

Only downside is you need a special charger because it is quite a delicate type of battery in terms of charging.

this is the kind of thing:

hop it can be helpfull in some way.
