Panasonic DV2500 or Sony GDV900

I'm torn between which video deck to choose. I would need it for capturing to FCP and capturing back to tape. Most would assume that the Panasonic would be the one to choose, but I am looking at being able to use the Sony in the field as a deck for playback. Not just a monitor, but a deck to record to in order to rewind and playback.

How are the heads on the Sony? Are they as robust as the Panasonic? What are the pros and cons of each? And finally, why is the Panasonic more expensive? It must be a better deck, but what makes it a better deck?

Thanks

I've read great things about the DSR-11 but have narrowed my choices down to the 2500 and the GVD-900.

Hopefully someone here has experience with both that can lead me in the right direction.

I am leaning toward the GVD-900 solely as a field recorder/playback.

I had a JVC BR-DV3000 (which is identical to the Panasonic DV2500; the Panasonic is a rebadged JVC). I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I sold that deck, but almost from the day I got it I wished that I would have spent a bit more and gotten the DSR-11.

Can't advise you on the GVD-900, I haven't used that one.
