Canvas in FCP6?

Is there a difference viewing footage in the Canvas in FCP6? I just upgraded, and my hvx 24pn footage looks horrible while playing a sequence, but fine when I pause on a single frame.

Can you elablorate please. I am perplexed why the video looks almost as if it has fields while playing, but is sharp when paused.

"Sounds like your render settings...what's your hardware."

Shane's Stock Answer #2: Blurry playback

ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL NTSC MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.

1. Disable overlays on the canvas
2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline

Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck or capture card.

What Shane said. IF it looks blurry while playing it on the timeline but fine when stopped it's almost for sure it needs a render. Make sure your you have "full" set on your "render all" setting.

Thanks, rendering did the trick. Funny, if I remember right, flipping the video (shooting with Brevis) didn't require a render with FCP 5.*???

OT: Still wondering if I'll trust a Matrox product, and get the MXO so I can see real video while editing on the MBPro??

Again, thanks.

Trust the Matrox MXO and Apple display. I compared it to the image I got on an HD CRT and it was so close, I had to squint hard to see the difference.

Although, the MXO and the NEWER MBPs are having issues. The Nvidia cards and the MXO aren't compatible just yet. The older MBPs have the ATI cards and they work fine.
