Brand new to LA

Hey guys. I've been in Los Angeles since the 21st of June, living on the cheap in Westwood. I've got a couple questions:

Any Syracuse fans out there? I just graduated in May.

Does anybody know of any good writing groups? I'd love to have some people to read my stuff.

Does anybody know of any good film groups, people interested in making shorts, talking about movies, etc.?

Also, does anybody know a good Rugby club near Westwood? I've been looking online, but there's just so many in the area that I don't know where to turn. I'm not a star player or anything. My main position is hooker, but I can prop. I've played flanker before, but I'm not really fast enough.
 
I didn't realize "living on the cheap" and "Westwood" could be used in the same sentence... :)

For writing groups, there's Creative Screenwriting. I'm not sure if they have meetings, but they do have screenings where they interview the writers after the film - http://creativescreenwriting.com

For film groups, get to know people that live in LA that frequent the boards - great way to meet people. We should be having a meeting soon. Keep an eye on the "Meeting" forum.

Well $600 a month isn't cheap compared to Syracuse (where I was paying $310), but it was one of the best rates I could find.
 
aghon - try www.donedealpro.com for a writing forum, I just had lunch with two women writers on that group and I know there will be a meet in the fall, but you'll be able to find a few folks who'll be glad to look at your script. Go post a few pages over at the script section on that forum.

film groups - uh, THIS forum. Someone is always shooting, all you need to do is ask and join in the fun.

rugby - now that's a new one. I'm an outside center, thought all of that running was going to kill me, and I hated my inside center, that girl was a ball hog. Don't know about the rugby clubs here, just moved.
 
People play rugby in LA? I thought it was more soccer n basketball here. Shows how much I don't know...then again, I grew up in Korea Town where dodging bullets is considered a sport.
