ok guys maybe there is something that I am missing here ok I use vegas 7 and have a quadro fx1500 video card which I know vegas does not use but anyway thats beside the point, I own two dell 1905FP now here is what I dont get, the resolution on this monitors is set at 1280 x 1024 which is the recomm resolution, why is that when I pop a regular dvd for my viewing pleasure I see pixels, like noise on stuff that is supposed to be clear as day, now the lcds are brand new, why is it that a regular tv does not pixel like that, thanks for the insight guys

24fps

Regular DVD's are SD, standard resolution, which is 720x480. With a monitor that has 1280 x 1024 native pixels, the image will be enlarged past its original resolution. So you'll get pixelation. Not to mention that DVDs are not perfect quality, in fact they are highly compressed, and shadows and areas with little information are usually the worst victims of the MPEG compression, so you'll see noise there. It has nothing to do with your LCD monitors.

Regular TVs are native SD and don't display anything above 720x480, thats why DVDs look better on them.

wow now that is new to me, so as long as everything looks tip top on my lcd's I should not have to worry about a thing? even for HD footage right? ok but what if I had a HD tv as my preview monitor on vegas that displays 1080
would that make a difference on a regulat dvd or do you still see pixelation?

thanks

Check your "sharpening" setting; my Dell monitor came extremely oversharpened and DVDs looked awful on it. I ended up turning the sharpening all the way off and it looks much, much better.
