24p Frame Rate

Hey!

I am shooting a film monday. I'm shooting on the xl2 at 24p. Just wondering what i should set the shutter speed to. What would be the most appropriate and clean setting to get it looking really nice.

for a film look typical shutter speed at 24 frames is 1/48

Thought I read something Barry G. posted about turning shutter off. I may be way off base with this but just test sh*t out and see how it looks to you.

Depends on which camera you're using and how it interprets the concept of "shutter off". On a DVX or HVX, "shutter off" = default, which would be exactly what you'd want. But on an HPX500, "shutter off" = use no shutter, or, in other words, 1/24 of a second. Way too blurry for most purposes if trying to get a filmlike look.

I don't know what the XL2 does when set to "shutter off".
