This is a real craigslist ad I just ran across...

ask if the hotel room you have to share has two beds or one. if he says two, pretend to be disappointed.

Maybe at the beginning I'll say, "I'm pretty forgetful so I record all of my calls; I hope you don't mind. Is that OK?"

Just tell him the call may be recorded for training and development purposes. :cheesy:

Record it and send the uploaded audio file's URL to interested parties via PM. No one is asking you to make it available on iTunes or the like. Just be smart about it.

What's the big deal? That might be a great deal for someone out there... when you work a "normal" job you always buy your own meals anyway, and this isn't really that skilled of labor. If someone doesn't have any work and is eager to learn, why not? It's not like he's asking for a skilled DP with gear or something, just a gopher.

At least he is upfront about the requirements and doesn't try and sugar coat it. Although I would have phrased the meal part differently and said "meals are not provided." Sounds a lot better than "and you get to buy your own food."

It's the he demands professional results and work ethic from the PA's part, but he fails on every single level to treat the PA professionally or with any dignity at all.

The PA will lose money overall to spend multiple days carrying around objects and running peoples errands for them, and get 0 respect doing it.

I wonder if you'll be sharing a room with Pete or Marissa. The "no snorers" disqualifies me.

Thats a good candidate to be flagged as spam if you ask me. You know if you flag it like 6 times in a row it gets taken off in an hour or two.

I think what gets everyone is the tone. We all know that a PA isn't "skilled labor" but many PA's have tons of skills and are just trying to get a foot in the door. And, whether you are a PA, director, best boy, producer etc...you should be given the same respect that you'd want in return.

Having said that....MAKE THE CALL bballplaya283!

recording phone calls: I picked up a little digital voice recorder last year and it came with a phone line interface to plug into the lav mic port. it is a MyVoice DMR-918SU. audio reponse is limited to 4KHz, but voice quality is very good.

you might be able to find a separate phone line interface to hook to any dvr.

I'm in the DFW area too, and I've not seen anything like this on DFC or other forums, so this guy must have a bad rep.

As PA you will be responsible for assisting the DP, on a Tv Network shoot.

What kind of credible "network shoot" is this that the DP doesn't have an assistant in place two days before showtime?
3-400 bucks? To quote Napoleon Dynamite, "I could make that much money in five seconds." But I guess it's all about the experience. Getting to hang out with this DP, but no snoring.

Phony phone calls...This sounds like a job for Richard & Sal from the Stern show. This guy need a call from Blue Iris.

It's got a lot of bugs in it from my point of view. $100 a day sounds good, but what are the hours you'll have to spend to earn it? Up at 5 am to load the gear, an hour or so travel to location, a 12 hour shoot, breakdown, load up, and back. Pretty soon, you have an 18 hour day. Then you still have to buy your own meals AND share a room with a picky bugger?

This is right up there with the videographer job I posted in another thread- You must ba a proffessional, have your own proffessional equipment, pick up the producer at LAX, drive him to the movie premiere in Westwood, do the shoot and interviews, then drive the producer back to LAX- all for $100. Sure... I'll get in touch with you real soon.

Yeah, when you've worked 20 hours for a hundred bucks, it comes out to 5 bucks an hour and I'd rather be scrubbing toilets. People that post crap like this don't know what the hell they're doing and as a result, the product will not be worth showing to anyone and you won't hear from them again.

I'm in DFW also and ran across this earlier. We should all call him and let him know how much of an idiot he is! :)

Crap guys...

the job already filled.

I called the number and talked to "Steve." I was trying to ask some basic questions at first, but it didn't work because the first thing he said was that the job was filled.

I asked him how the shoot would be and he said, "Why you askin' me? I'm the one hirin'. I's only want you to carry 'round my gear!"
Then I said, "OK Sir. Maybe I could be a second PA."
He replied, "We only have budget for one."

I should have said I'd work for free but I messed up and tried to just start asking more questions. Essentially the guy hung up on me.

This was a failure but if anyone finds any more postings like this, let me know because I want to get a good one.

"Why you askin' me"
hahaha

Tell me he didn't ACTUALLY say "I's only want you to carry 'round my gear"
I'm really hoping that's your comedic embellishment.
