Hey guys. I haven't posted here before but wanted to introduce myself with a clip that we shot this past weekend. Just a small scene at a pretty fountain to experiment more with our camera setup (HD100 and Brevis adapter).

Our cinematography company is Cinevera Pictures (www.cineverapictures.com).

Please give your comments on any aspect of this scene or our demo reel. I'd be happy to hear from you. Thanks!

Awesome!!
I love the lighting, and the camera work - you guys r gusu.
Checked out your other works too, really cool thing you guys are doing.

Good overall, I liked your lighting, particularily on the girl character, and the fountain was quite beautiful. However I did have some issues with lighting on the guy, it felt a bit sourcy, and the Key light seemed to change. Just before halfway through its quite obvious on a shot, shot reverse, where at first the girl has the key light hitting her left side of face, and her right side is quite dark. On the reverse looking at the guy however, her right side of face is entirely illuminated, as is the guys. Just little things like that took me out of it a bit. Otherwise nice work.

Those are some good thoughts, David. I hadn't heard that yet. It's good to consider having all the light sources stay consistent but when it comes down to it most viewers don't seem to notice at all (including myself often). For example I used to worry a great deal about the position of the sun for outdoor scenes but what ends up happening is as long as it looks good and is not a super extreme change no one is going to notice where the key is in different shots. But if you can make it happen to be consistent then that's probably best.

Something no one commented on yet is the fact that after shooting the wide and the dolly in/out we went in for the mediums and I asked for a light w/ blue to rim her on the left side of her face. Brian and some other guys immediately suggested that it would look different and be jarring but so far everyone (including me) eats it up. It was a more subtle change but it's there.

My main lighting beef is with the shot behind the fountain and how the light from the fountain there is not nearly as intense as it is on the next shot. Other than that I gobble everything else right down.

Really nice, I watched your demo reel too, and that was also impressive. The key thing was not an issue for me either. Woo!

Looks great. The Key didn't bother me at all. What kind of light kit are you using?

We had a mix of lights:
2x Arri 650s
1x Arri 300
2x Lowell 1Ks
2x 500w PAR cans
2x 200w China balls

I believe all were in play for the wide shot. Mainly a Chinaball, 2x 650s, 1K, and PAR can for the closer stuff.

Hi mr terpstar, just wondering could you share abit more about the lighting placement for some particular shots.

Draw a little paint picture and explain which light was where, which were reflected and all..

I feel I could learn alot from this :D

Hobbes, here's a photo that should give you a better idea. Brian is holding a light in the background that was kicking her but we also added a light on a mirror 2 inches underwater to get the reflections in the closer shots. On the left we added a blue light for another kicker. The key was mainly the chinaball you see in the shot. the 650 next to it was turned off I believe.

On another note, we just finished another short scene for demo/practice work. You can see it here:

Comments/questions welcome as always.

Thanks. We're hoping to get on a feature soon but so far I'm just camera op for one this coming winter, which is still cool. Other than that a good amount of short films this month and next are on the agenda. One is our own with Nick LaVelle. Perhaps we'll post it up in the user films section.

That was enjoyable, had the right mood set, and a really cool fountain indeed. One thing that was a little ackward, like somebody else mentioned aswell, was the actors talking without hearing what they were saying.

P.S. What's the name of the song in "saying goodbye"?
