Opening FCP 5.1 sequences in version 4.5... SOS

Hiya friends,

I'm certain this has been discussed here before and I've trolled the forum looking for threads, but haven't had much luck finding any, so here we (probably) go again...

My clients will likely be handing me some FCP sequences originally cut in 5.1. Unfortunately I'm still limping along in 4.5. Trouble lies ahead... any suggestions on how to prepare to import these more modern sequences in a slightly antiquated version of FCP? Would be wildly grateful for any suggestions or links to online resources.

They need to export for you an XML file. You can import that into FCP 4.5 and pickup where they left off. I can't recall if 4.5 has XML 2 or not, so you should double check that. If not, then they need to make sure to export an XML 1 file so you can read it properly. Or it could be that FCP 4.5 doesn't have XML 3, but does have 2. Anyway, just make sure to sort that out before the export for you. Good luck.

Thank you VaricamLife! Will let them know about exporting as an XML... it seems as though 4.5 has XML1... do you think it will pose a problem to import an XML2 or XML3 file into 4.5?
