State of the Wookie

Alright - so it seems every few months lately I've made one of these posts, then something happens, then I'm gone again. This time I swear to make an effort to stick around.

Long story short - my life feels like it was in a blender for the past few months, but things are now shaking out and leveling out...and hopefully I've come out on top.

Finally quit the job at the TV station that I was always complaining about, and went back to unpredictable world of freelance work (with the incredibly support of my wife, of course). So, anyone thats ever made a career change like that knows the stress that comes with it (hence my not being around...again).

The bad news is that I had a few deaths in the family recently - so that's part of what also kept me away. My grandfather, whom I'd posted to you guys about last year after visiting him for his 100th birthday, finally passed away about a month ago. While it wasn't unexpected giving that he was now 101, it's still never easy. But, it's all for the best.

SOooooooo.....

On to the fun stuff (if you're still reading that is)....

The bulk of my work now of days is for a company by the name of OnNetworks.com
(if any of you are interested in knowing more about them, feel free to let me know or send me a PM).

They're an online content provider, and I'm producing 4 shows for them right now with my business partner. 2 of the shows are almost done with their first seasons, and the other 2 are just starting up, so they aren't online yet.

You can see the shows on their website
or you can check them out on itunes (and SUBSCRIBE to them!).

The shows are:

"Stump the Chef"
We give an award winning chef 3 random ingredients from which he must make a meal. It's part 'lets make a deal' and part 'Iron Chef.' Very goofy, but alot of fun to make.

"Austin Connoisseur"
A show profiling local Austin places.
I really like my city...so maybe this is only interesting to me.
But it's been alot of fun to work on, and I'm happy with what we're getting given our budgets and schedule.

Both shows are shot on the HVX.
(which is about to be shipped back to panasonic for repair, but that's another story... ).
Let me know what you think.

Glad to be back, again.

Luis! I wish you the best, God knows you deserve it!

btw, the best BBQ I've ever had was at the Salt Lick outside Austin while I was in college (in El Paso) in 1972.

Blaine, you'll be happy to know that the best BBQ is STILL at the Salt Lick ouside of Austin.

Issac - things are smooth enough. I find as more time passes in my life that they will never be 'smooth.' Then again, that's what keeps life interesting I guess.

Oh, man, Luis... I remember getting some great brisket followed by some great peach cobbler. I'm not sure if it's the same now but since they didn't have a liquor license, you brought your own in an ice chest.

Blaine - it's still the same. Great brisket, great sausage, all you can eat....
And some great peach cobbler (though I usually don't have enough room left in me for that after all the BBQ). And yup, still BYOB. And in case any of you are thinking of going anytime soon - it's cash only. Next time you want to go - let me know!

SIDE NOTE:

I started another thread in the 'clips' section for the shows I'm working on. Figured that would be the right place to post it instead of in here. I don't want to get sloppy on my return.

Mmm... Salt Lick.

We used to drive out there every other weekend but I haven't been in at least 2 years. Now they have another in town that does catering and... it's just not the same.

Yeah, not the same AT ALL.
No 'family style' dinner... and they serve things like "Penne Pasta" and "Grilled Trout"??

Yeah, don't get fooled by Saltlick 360 - it's a completely different restaurant.

Hey Luis, you're one of the fist people I saw when I got on dvxuser... I remember thinking... "Oh look, it's Chewbaca in a tuxedo!"

Good to hear things are going well for you career-wise, but sorry to hear about the losses you've gone through though. :)

Man, I miss Austin. Steve2bees is down there right now. I need to get down this summer.

The shows look really cool.

Luis! I was wondering where ya went... had communication for awhile back a few months ago! Hope that HVX is rockin for ya!

And may I offer my condolences on the losses... you're in my prayers.

I feel your pain on the job change / freelance thing. Glad to hear you're pulling through in regards to that and your family life.

Keep on truckin' (You'd think I'd have better advice than something that often appears on bumper stickers and t-shirts ... you get what you pay for I guess) :)

Thanks for the well wishes guys.
It's greatly appreciated -

By the way - Krestofre....were you trying to make fun of Paul's post, or was that just a happy accident?
