A Little Help With A HD Format

is there any format i can burn to normal DVD that is readable in Blu ray and HD DVD drives. in HD.

Say i want to give 2 people a clip in HD, they cant play it on their computer, but one has a HD DVD drive and the other has a Blu ray drive. and i dont have the resources to burn to the separate disc types.

is there a format that i can burn to a regular DVD that will show a HD resolution of 720p preffered through either system. and Xbox 360 and PS3 if possible?

like how the 360 can play WMV-HD files.

is there a format i can use that will work on all?

any info will be helpful

thanks

Simply put... No. Otherwise, there would not be a format war going on. Everyone would choose that combo format and both sides would be happy.

There is a solution for you though.

Put your resources into burning it onto a Blu-ray format because that's the only way you can get it on blu-ray. Then use the cheapo way to get an HD-DVD version of it through the 3x DVD way.

If you haven't heard about 3x DVD, it's basically a way to get HD-DVD onto a regular DVD-R. That should be cheap since DVD-Rs are cheap and most likely you already have a burner.

Here's a link on how to burn 3x DVDs.

Good luck.

Well, if you are talking about making a data disc and not a DVD disc, then that's a different story.

The PS3 supports different formats, but I'm assuming that just like the Xbox360, it wont play automatically like it would when poping in a real DVD. In order to play it, you would have to go through the options of either game consoles, go to the video section, and select the movie file you want to play.

I dont have a PS3 myself, but on the xbox, which I do have, that's the way you have to do it. Note that if you do it this way, these discs wont be playable on stand-alone HD-DVD/Blu-ray players because the PS3 and X360 are more like computer than movie players.

Here's a link to what the PS3 supports:

And here's a link to what the Xbox 360 supports:

If you're making data discs, I don't see how you can't afford to encode and burn two different types of files onto regular DVD-Rs.

yea thats what i meant, data disc, really should have made that clear.

that would work because what i need to do would be short so 2 different formats would work on a DVD-R

thanks

anyone with anymore info to share is welcome
