"Honey I Shrunk the Kids" - Movie

I would like to know how you can achieve the look like the movie "Honey I shrunk the kids" where the people appear to be small while everything else in the shot is BIG compared to them. Is this something that has to be shot a certain way or can I do the shrinking in post? Does this have to be Greenscreened?

I would definitely use a greenscreen for the shots. It doesn't need to be a big screen, as long as it's big enough to fit your talent in... Well you'll see from my drawing:
























































































 
If you're planning on having your actors interact with the grass or pebbles or other objects you're going to need props though. And you shouldn't show in the frame where their feet touches the ground. But if you need to, used a greenscreen floor.

It's not something that can be done well on a low budget. They used a giant set I think.
 
Well I need to shoot myself against a green screen so I can shrink myself down on screen. I would not have the need to interact with props or anything. I just need to be shrunk down.
