Fake Wind / Silent Fan?

Say you need some fake wind, I was wondering what fan I could use that doesn't make too much noise... Or what my options of making some fake wind would be.

How big, how far away from subject?

For closeups, it's usually a "wafter" A grip holds a flag or beadboard and wafts it up and down towards the subject. It can be quite effecitve, but only for closeups.

Sometimes I'll be doing wide shots from far away to show the whole atmosphere or set and stuff... But I'll look into that fan also...

For wide shots you can use fans and just do ADR in post. Sync is not as critical in a wide shot.
