Bad Boy Achromatic Diopter?

Forget about the cost...which do you think is the BEST Achromatic Diopter available right now. Do you think that Schneider Optics (used to be Century Optics) has the best one of them all. I was looking to purchase the 72MM +3.5 ACHROMATIC DIOPTER at $415 buckos

I've used Century optics for sometime now and can't say anything bad about them. I think you're safe to purchase anything they make. I'll have 72 mm & 82 mm achromats ready very soon. :)

I have a DIY adapter and Dennis Wood's 72mm +10 achromat made my device work so good now. You can purchase it online at the cinevate website. His achromat is designed for the brevis adapter.

Thanks Daniel for the info.....how about the 500D? what power does that have? Do you know how they stack up against the Century Optics one?

The 500D is only +2.
I dont know how the century optics performs. I saw a testchart some time ago with the 250D and it was on the outer edge a little bit soft.

S, our 72mm achromat is well over twice the power of that CO +3.5, and half the price. I would hold it up to anything out there with respect to chromatic/spherical aberrations, surface finish and coatings. It's also encased in a heavily fortified ring for our purposes.

We also sell the SGpro's r3 achromat, which is roughly +8, in 72mm threaded ring. I think for your purpose, it would be best to invest in either Dennis's or our achromat, which have both been designed for the purpose.

Super8,

a +3 somethin achromat is not sufficient for your adapter needs.

Dennis and Wayne are right.
Their achromats are designed for the purpose of being integrated with adapters. I have Dennis' achro which is similar to Wayne's.
I've been throgh the path of experimentation with close ups, macros and what have you.

It wil save you R&D time if you cut down the variables.

Wayne and Dennis' achromats are both 72mm in diameter thus giving you a bigger sweetspot for HD or SD needs, in my case i was able to squeeze out 36mm by 24mm in GG fov image from the brevis achromat.

Hey guys...super info you gave me.

So let me understand this correctly...Dennis is about +10 and Wayne's is about +8?
Are these readily available for the public to just purchase without having to buy the whole adapter? Are delivery times pretty fast or does it take some time to make them?

Also, when you purchase these achromats, you dont need to combine them with other close up filters? Currently, I had just purchased the Canon 250D but I im in the need to combine it with a couple of Hoya's +4 and +2 close up rings to get a fuller image. But I think it is distorting my image...I guess you can't be mounting close-up lenses after close-up lenses

Super8,

Thats what i did. the stacking aggravated the chromatic aberration of the close ups. After I got my achromat, which both of em sell individually and not part of tyhe kit, my CA was neglegible and I just used the achromat, no more stacking.

In my experience, Dennis was able to deliver my order in 3 days. -considering i'm on the other side of the world in a tiny island in the middle of the pacific.

you can order from both of em online.

After you thread the achromat onto the front lens element of your cam. you might need step up or step down rings, depending on your cam's front thread diameter, (brevis and sgpro are both 72mm).

You adjust the distance from your camera(with achromat attached) to the adapter's gg until you get the optimum combination of sharp edges and no distortion on the corners, this varies from camera to camera.

In my case, my procedure was, shift macro ring to full, put focus to infinity, leaving the zoom to be adjusted until i get the optimum image quality, somtimes this distance will vary with the type of 35mm lens your using because, faster lenses and long lenses are more forgiving with vignetting and edge distortions than a wide lens.
These consideration, to accommodate wide 35 lenses, tend to make you zoom in closer to the gg to remove vignetting, you'll end up with a smaller fov on the gg image, say 34mm X 18mm. In my setup I included a little vignette on the safe areas of the frame to get a bigger fov of 36mm x 24mm so i can minimize grain size.

What is the typical delivery time to the U.S once the order has been placed and payment cleared on one of these SGpro's r3?
