My Blueberry Nights = Wong kar wai -Norah Jones

I adore Wong Kar Wai, but I am a little worried about this one. It's got a bad buzz coming out of Cannes. Everyone seems to be saying there is zero chemistry between Law and Jones...and the voiceovers are a little cringe-worthy.

Still, Cat Power + Wong Kar Wai = me at the theater regardless.

i'll see it for portman. ya everyone is saying the overall film is "eh", but they have said that her performance was worth checking out... plus from some of the promo pics, she looks freakin hot

from the little bit of portman's performance in the trailer i can tell shes probably great, but from what i saw of norah jones... maybe thats where the "eh" comes in. She seemed like a zombie.:(

ya. but also, this is norah jones' first movie, so you've gotta look at it in perspective too. i agree with you, her acting seems bad from the trailer, but i'll give the film a shot to see if it can manage to not disappoint.

well, nothing will stop me from seeing it. Even if ben affleck was in it.:)
last wong kar wai movie tony leung came out as a surprise guest (for 2046)

i'll see it too. portman...

thanks for links to the trailers....hard to say if norah being a zombie is part of her character?
Im a big fan of Portman since Leon the professional with jean reno.

im interested (duh) but I wonder if the language barrier WKW faced had any reason why jones perfomance could possibli be bad or just cause she's not an an actor. KWK has used many non actors and done well, so Im wondering.

I'll definitely check this. Even though I'm all Jude Lawed out, and I really don't think Portman can act to save her life. She was great in The Professional, but I feel like you can always tell she's acting. Some actors totally disappear into roles, and I'm just always aware of her trying to be clever instead of truthful.

I'm very interested to see how Wong Kar wai shot this movie, outside of the neons of Hong-Kong/Asia

Love his camerawork, mise-en-scene and use of music. Norah Jones is already a great casting move, if not only for the music!

Yeah I heard that Norah Jone's is just dull to watch in this. The whole thing looks a little twee for my tastes (judging by the trailer) but it is WKW so maybe it's worth a look.

I'm actually just starting to enjoy Jude Law's performances, he used to irritate me, but I'm warming to him. Plus Portman normally pulls out a strong performance (plus she's gorgeous).

just saw this movie the other day. i liked it. it had its flaws, but i enjoyed the movie. not really impressed with Norah Jones' acting. coulda been better.

overall an enjoyable movie

this movie was probably my least favorite wong kar wai film to date but still interesting.

oddly enough, what was more disappointing for me than the acting was the cinematography.

it was the least enchanting looking film wkw has ever done.

where was CHRISTOPHER DOYLE!?!?!?!?

David Strathairn's performance was amazing. I was equally impressed by Rachel Weisz and Natalie Portman.

The cinematography, shot by the talented Darius Khondji, was daring, unfortunately it will always be compared to C. Doyle who, along with W-K-W, developed the look, style, and feel of a W-K-W film.

Something gets lost in translation though. I miss reading sub titles for a Wong Kar Wai film.

this was one of the best looking movies ive seen in over 8 years.
second to seven. This film is very WKW. I wish he did something a little new...
