MOTU has announced new Firewire Video/Audio I/O for DVCPROHD/DVCPRO

For those asked about other codecs, it won't support other codecs.
DVCPRO codecs are gloriously chosen by MOTU.
So, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO HD, umcompressed SD will be the supported codecs.
I guess DVCRPO means it works as DV.

There is a difference between the way DVCPro and DV25 handle color sampling. DVCPro uses 4:1:1 for both PAL and NTSC, whereas DV25 uses 4:2:0 for PAL and 4:1:1 for NTSC.

Noel,

Looks like we are getting together on the Tuesday night. Dean from DVinfo is coming on Tuesday night. You can stop by other days, too, my business is open to public :).

How can it possibly capture HDSDI via firewire? That requires at minimum a 4 drive SATAe array. I love all the ins and out but if the fw bus is the bottleneck then it's mostly for show, everything is going to be slathered down to 100mbps. I think MOTU makes great products but this one might be creating false expectations.

Firewire 400 theoretically maxes out at 400MBit/s, FW800 at 800Mbit/s, so on a desktop with an internal raid (or maybe on a laptop with external raid), it can work (with a dedicated codec) .
Just for the info, can´t say abything about the new MOTU though...

Yes it is via firewire, that is why it uses DVCPRO HD format.
It accepts uncompressed signals, but it records with DVCPRO HD format.

So it ONLY records in DVCproHD?
So why should HVX users use it? Or is it intendet for HDV users trying to avoid HDV compression? How many of the HDVs have a component out? The Canons have SDI if I recall...

HD 3 cam studio

HD 3 cam studio

this is what i have been looking for. I am setting up a HD 3 cam studio all HDSDI and our mixer will have HDSDI out. We want to record to DVCPROHD without using a tape machine or the overpriced P2 deck.

HDSDI to DVCPRO HD 1394

HDSDI to DVCPRO HD 1394

4A HVS-6000HS or or the broadcast Pix slate 2100, they have a HDSDI card coming out this year.

Is the Motu v3hd the only way to do HDSDI to DVCPRO HD 1394???

sarah,

There're others that have HDSDI and be able to record DVCPRO HD since DVCPRO HD recording can be achieved by CPU native power.

V3HD is unique because it's firewire based and will be able to be connected to notebooks computers, too. Also, being able to sync to digital mixers for the audio and transfer the audio digitally would add more control for application, maybe?
