"On The Lot" tonight

Kenny's movie: We are all dumber for having witnessed it. May God have mercy on our souls.

lol...i was gonna fast forward it but wanted to see where he was going with it. i really want to know if the girl Jessica's film (the little tan film school girl) is any better than his though. Since when he was on her team he dogged her work.

"You call yourself a director of photography? There were boom poles in the shots and everything was out of focus."

Why can't the show get back to this format? Ah, the good old days. (About 20 days ago)

So, are they actually showing any filmmaking yet, or is this show still American idol with filmmakers? I stopped watching it a couple of weeks ago.

People are being WAY too hard on these filmmaker's films. I know this is going to start something but I detect a little bit of jealousy. The film that won dramafest would've been maybe 8th or 9th out of the 10 films they've showed so far. And these guys had five days to write, shoot, and edit their movies. How much time did drama-fest contestants have?

Take ten of the most established directors in the world, give them 5 days, a dvx, no money, and a 10 man crew to make their film and I'd bet most of them would fare pretty poorly. Good stories and good films take time. With these time constraints, these guys are doing pretty damn good.

And yes Kenny is retarded but he's the only one of the five that took a chance.

so is anyone else concerned about the fact that these films were shot months ago? kenny's was obviously shot in the winter.

here it is several weeks into this show and they're not giving us anything new. what have the film makers been doing all this time?

i'm worried this show will get cancelled before we find a winner.

I think that the films are very professional looking, esp for 5 days worth of work (the only thing I noticed was the poor audio on the street shots of the slutty mom movie). My problem is that 90% of the films are following the same bubble gum humor, and the judges are not being helpful at all.

What this show needs is two things: The need one night a week to be all behind the scenes making of the films, including all the drama of them living in the house together. People love the conflict. They also need a "simon" judge. Someone that will make rude but accurate comments. That's what really sells American Idol, not just the singing.

At least Kenny and Marty took chances. I personally cannot stand Kenny's poor attitude, but at least he knows what he wants to do and doesn't change his style (whatever that may be) no matter what the judges say. I think that Marty has a style that would sell in hollywood. And its hard to build up characters in 2 minutes, but his images look slick and I bet if you gave him 90 minutes he would come up with something good.

Allow me to quote from Hesh Rabkin, Sopranos, Season One:

So... I think it's not good. Want to be a little more specific? There's good and there's not good. This is not good. Okay, maybe it's not your era, no offense. Music is music. Talent is talent. I don't care who you are. And I've seen them all. I saw heavy metal invented by Hendrix at the cafe wha. Kid just came out of the army. I said, "Kid, I don't know what you call it, talent, charisma, magic, but you got it." These kids they don't, sorry.

Hey, these directors are all more talented and ambitious than me, I'm comfortable with my mediocraty. But at the end of the day, a good portion of these movies just aren't entertaining me. Sorry, I'm just not feelin' it. Plus, it's my God-given right to get on a message board and sound off with my worthless commentary & opinions.

PS-"Slut mom" Ha ha, funniest thing Carrie Fisher has said all season. I'm convinced that film was a biopic.

If I had a 10 man crew and 5 days, I could write, direct and complete a feature. I regularly do 24 hour short film festivals where we have 24 hours from the time we're told what the synopsis is until we turn in the DVD, and I've been placing regularly, with a 2 man team (i write and direct, there's an editor and occasionally we have a cameraman, otherwise i do it. i also do lighting, sound and score it), compared to the competitions teams of 10 or more people.

either you have it or you don't. if you've got 5 days and a full crew and you're making excuses, there's a problem. but let's be honest here - nobody, not the judges or the producers themselves, want or expect any of these people to succeed. What you have is a group of egomaniacs who are using a group of budding egomaniacs as entertainment. neither spielberg nor anyone else wants these cats to become successful, because then they would become competition down the road, and none of them want that.

i am 100% in agreement with the other people on this board who've said that the directors for this show were probably picked by the self video they turned in, rather than any of the films they've made.

Yeah I watched last night - just sat and yelled at Carrie Fisher most of the time. No real reason I just dont like her on this show I've decided. Polished was amusing and seemed to be well shot. The rest just seemed amateur, crappy, and like something I'd make. Although I did really like Marty's style and editing. His images just werent at the same level as "Polished" to me.

And no jealousy here just dissappointment. I was hoping the world had more good undiscovered filmmakers. Kinda like when Sanjaya made it to the top ten... Sure he can sing better than me, but he still sucks at it.

I'll be finding something to do next Tuesday...

the same thing could be said for you when you bashed Michael Bay for two or three pages of this thread, lol. :)

everyone is entitled to their opinion. whether it's good or bad. bottom line.

One thing about the judges, they should have put movie critics instead of actors, directors, and producers. Critics can be ruthless without fear of alienating people. With an actor or director not many are willing to fully critizice another person work. So we get what we have now. If they got someone like a Richard Roper or some other known critic then the judging portion would have been better.

If you want to see judging the way it should be done, try the "next best thing" show or whatever it's called. I only caught portions of this show, but it was about finding the next great impersonator, which sounds horrible (and, frankly, it is) but the judges are professional comedians, and the judging was the best part of the show...

i saw the episode and i just coudnt watch it, it was awful.

It seems like only the mom short was shot with DVX, everything else looked differnt.

Now to get to the cocky dude who thinks hes mstr hollywood, oh my god the guy doesnt have any original bone in his body.

And to correct c.g._eads vbmenu_register("postmenu_974236", true); it is not Ridley Scott but his brother Tony Scott who makes all the current crazy ****(man on fire, domino, deja vu, beat the devil BMW short etc)

Anyway i like how he mentioned that its his own style ..etc etc if i was one of the judges i'd call him on his bullshit and tell him that Tony Scott did it first and that what hes doing is atricious. I was super dissapointed wit that just cuz he copied someone elses style and tried to pass it off like he is king ****.. no way man. Imitation is not the best way to flatter somone. Making something that looks familiar but is better is the way to go and he didnt do it.

Kenny- hes making **** that i made in grade 11 TV&Film class, wtf?????? All this artsy fartsy **** that is lame and not even excecuted very well.

As was mentioned before, having them not show the filmmaking process was the downfall for this shitty show.... i hope it doesnt comeback and if it does they have to go back to the roots. I guess they are trying to quickly **** out these shows to sell commercial space. Has no one noticed that there are no commercials for Sony/Panasonic/Final cut/Adobe or anything?????? Someone didnt think to well bout this. LAME SHOW as we all know it.

ha,ha - i'm picturing that scenerio..

"If I had a 10 man crew and 5 days, I could write, direct and complete a feature"

i assume the only thing preventing one from completing a feature is the "If" ?
10 person crew and 5 days are the easy part ..

not really. for these people, this is all they're doing right now. if i had 5 days, 10 people and nothing else to do, s ure. unfortunately, i've got a job. the 10 people is difficult, too, since all of my film school buddies have jobs. real life kind of gets in the way of that. but on a reality tv show? You don't have any of those concerns.
