interlaced lines visible in captured footage

Hi all.

After I capture footage - shot with and captured via my 100b - it has that interlaced look. An example below. I don't remember what mode that was shot in, but the thing is, it doesn't matter if it's 24p, 24pA, 60i, or any of them. Anything I capture looks like that. Futhermore, stuff I shot with other cheaper cameras and captured with the 100b also looks like that, but even more so.

Here's the odd thing. It looks like that only when the magnification is set 100%. In any other magnification you don't see the interlaced lines. Not even in 200%, 400%, etc..

I read in the manual, and other places, that no matter how the footage was shot (24p, 30p, 60i) the output when capturing is always 60i. What i'm experiencing right now I guess confirms this.

So here's the question, is this just a quirk of FCP but in reality the footage is fine, or is this something I should worry about when exporting as it may carry over?

you may have captured your footage and set your preferences for an offline editing workflow... that feature allows you to capture... BUT immediately compresses your footage for an smoother workflow...

With the DVX100 you really do need to know what mode you shot with. That will impact things quite a bit for you. While not specific to the issue you're talking about, its still something you should know.

Anyway, where are you seeing the interlace problem? Are you only seeing it on your computer monitor? If so, then don't worry, that's not a big deal. Your computer monitor isn't meant for that. Try setting your video playback to firewire while you have your DVX hooked up to the computer. Then run the RCAs from the DVX to a TV set. Are you still seeing the problem then?

cheers.

I only see it on the computer monitor. Ok. I'll accept that it doesn't carry over to tv screens, but why does it do that on the comp monitor to begin with? Does everyone get this sort of thing? If not, what can I do to not get it as well.

PS - regardless of the mode of shooting the outgoing signal from the camera is always 60i. I don't remember what mode I shot in, but it definitely wasn't 24pA, for which I know you have to set it to 23.9..... And even if it was 24pA, that would affect the playback, not the image.
