Here's a new lens I found today. The manufacturer, Dave, has made some cool stuff in the past, so I'm sure this is up to spec. Does anyone have this?

"The Lens Bastard is a lens adapter that allows the fish eye glass from a Mark II to be retro-fit with the .6 wide angle glass for a Panasonic HVX-200 HD camera. It is sold pre-assembled as a complete lens only."

It is still in pre order so nobody will have it yet. I wonder why they mention that it will fit the .6x wideangle adapter, while they actually promote the mark II lens. I also don't get why they didn't make a bayonet mount. At least it doesn't look like one on the pitures. I also find it hard to believe that the upperleft corner is the only vignetting you will see. If you go from 58mm to 85mm, keeping the lens further away from the stocklense, without any significant vignetting, I think you deserve the nobel price.

Don't get me wrong, I hope it works out fine, because the i will buy one for sure. But for now, I am really sceptic.

I didn't read anywhere that there will be such a step up from 58mm to 82mm. Though the rear part of a Mark II lense can be had at 58mm, my understanding is that only the front element is used for this new product.

For $1,500 it's supposed to compete with Century's Extreme ($2,800).

Taking the DIY approach to creating better lenses isn't brand new, but this idea seems solid. The budget lens company Raynox has been the target of many a project. Users are adapting it to DVX100 cameras for a wider Field of View, though it's made for a smaller camcorder.

This may work indeed. I have heard of a custom made version before. Also just the front glass was used.

Since such a wide angle is only used for effects or for skate/bmx videos, I rally see no point in spending 2,800$ on one?
Even 600$ is a lot...
Even if the Century resolves more lines - the output is a heavily distortet image and very likely some flare in it...

I have used it quite a bit although I still film the majority of skating with a vx1000.

Here is a link to some footage with it:

I got both lenses hella cheap so it was a way better deal than the true Century Lense. I'd suggest you try it instead of even paying $1500 for the Bastard.
