i'm especially liking korean cinema like

"Oasis" - one of the most perfect films i've ever seen, very real, touching, and magical. some of the best acting ever.

"Old Boy"

"woman is the future of man" with an ending like that it should have
been dissatisfying rather than resonant and meaningful.

taiwan

"Cafe Lumiere" - had amazing set ups, and was especially interesting when focused
on the female protaganist.

"what time is it over there" - just alright

japanese films

"Bright Future " - for gorgeous lush cinematography in

"after life" - for me to watch anything more than once is a big deal
i've seen after life 3 times.

"Kamikaze Girls" - great story and production values

so what am i missing? thanks much!

If you liked those try, 3 IRON it's right up your alley.

I'm sorry I must have missed what you were saying. What do you mean by sad? From the movies you listed above, they all have somewhat sad subjects, and are all compelling drama's. Please explain?

The Korean flick, The Host, is really good. And, if you like action, maybe try the Thai film, Ong Bak. Oh, and the Chinese film, Hero, is incredible.

I must say, "Hero" has some of the best cinematagraphy I've ever seen in a film... and not to mention everything else about it was great...

i mean

i mean

hey movie stunts,
good question.
is the sisters film a horror film?
it looks like it from the cover,
i've got a hang-up against horror,,,
and the movie with the kids in it,
nobody knows
seems like a very well made film,
but i'm afraid to watch it because it
sounds so emotionally difficult to watch.
i mean its one thing watching grown ups
facing difficulties, but kids?

so i'm sure your pics are super good,
they just seem out of my comfort zone...

True they are hard to watch but therein the beauty of them lies, kids are not fragile, they are survivors and these are done so remarkably well that all the sadness turns to inspiration. As for The tale of two sisters I only mentioned it because of your Oldboy interest, it has horror elements so you may not like it but I would not call it a horror movie.

If you liked Cafe Lumiere, check out Hou Hsiao Hsien's other recent films... Three Times and Millenium Mambo.

i liked fulltime killer. there, i said it.
a friend of mine wrote that. Joey was the biggest John Woo / HK Action fanboy I'd ever met and thru an amazing set of circumstances he found himself talking to the right people and getting the opportunity to write a script for Johnny To. a dream come true for him. i'm embarrased to say i've never seen it.

A good comedy pic is, My Wife Is A Gangster. I have only seen the first two but I believe it is a trilogy now.
Also along the same lines as the movies you may like would be, Restless, it is a new korean love story first and an action movie second.
Three great newer Japanese love story/ action drama's are Twilight Samurai, When The Last Sword Is Drawn, and The Hidden Blade. I would reccomend those to anyone, Very powerful stories.

Theyres one korean japanese collaboration i like, its called -Asako in ruby shoes.
Another mainstream korean movie was called the -Untold scandale. Its an historic drama.

Theyre was a great vietnamese movie a few years back.

The Quiet Family really was great comedy.

I would also recommend the Marrying the Mafia trilogy. First two films are absolutely hilarious, the third one wanders a bit but still decent overall.
