Any reason I should upgrade to the Master Collection?

I have Adobe CS3 Web Suite Premium, and I always planned to get the Master Collection for Fireworks and Contribute, but as it turns out, those programs were included in the Web Premium bundle.

I've never been a huge fan of Premiere or Audition (now Sound Booth), but I get along with After Effects. Can Motion go toe-to-toe with After Effects for light to moderate use?

Does the Apple Suite have the same amount of interoperability that the Adobe products have; for example, exporting a film-strip file .flm in FCP to be interpreted in Photoshop?

wow that is amazing...I was just about to ask how after effects CS3 compares to Motion......so ya, does it? like all in all, can after effects match motion in every aspect?

There are a ton of different Adobe bundles, it's difficult to keep them all sorted sorted out. Apple doesn't have anything that compares with Photoshop or Illustrator. Having those apps is a necessity IMHO. Regarding Motion vs After Effects, they more or less can achieve the same result so it's a matter of personal preference. FWIW, I prefer AE because I know how to use it and it get's the job done. Having a solid working knowledge of AE is a marketable skill set. Browse through job postings and count the number of jobs that require knowledge of After Effects versus jobs that require knowledge of Motion. That said, you'll find a lot more job posting for FCP editors versus Premiere editors. It all depends on what direction you intend on taking.

This is a little backwards, it should read can Motion match After Effects? After Effects is a mature product that continues to get better. Motion is a relatively new app that has made tremendous strides in a short period of time. The latest release has added 3D space a feature that AE has had for a long time. So yeah, Motion is catching up but it's not the AE killer that so many predicted.

On some level...I don't know Motion so I can't say with certainty. I believe you can import a Motion sequence into FCP - if you go back to Motion and revise the sequence the changes will be reflected in the FCP timeline. Maybe someone who actually uses Motion will chime in.

If I were in your shoes my decision would be dependant on how much cash I had available. If I were tight on cash I would buy the FCS 2 bundle and then save up to buy the Adobe bundle in the next 6-8 months. If I was rolling in the dough I would buy both suites.

. . . I've never been a huge fan of Premiere or Audition (now Sound Booth) . . .

neither was I . . . until I found I had some airconditioning hum in the background of an important interview I did. I know this doesn't go to the core of your question, but regarding Audition, it resolved the problem easily (and completely).
