Thanks !!

I dont think thats going to be enough wattage to compete with the sun. When I shoot in the sun I just shoot with whats up in the sky for most shoots. Depending on how the shadows are falling a reflector can be a nice fill though.

Depends on what kind of look he's going for

I'm assuming the lights are 5600k?

I would maybe go with a 2k HMI with the diffuser for the fill on the lead singer since you're competing with the sun.

The smaller light could be perhaps a mole tweenie (650w)

As for the backlights, you could use the typical nine light "cool" music video lights if you wanted to - cant remember their technical name off hand

What will your power source be?

You are really going to need a lot more wattage to really make any difference when shooting outside. Especially if those are Tungsten lights, if you gel them to match CT then your going to loose even more power, unless you want mismatched color. I really agree with monte though, lighting outside in daylight your going to need higher powered HMI.

Good Luck

I have to disagree, in the middle of a field at daytime, lighting with hmis is over kill for a video shoot, hell even for a film shoot, and a more headache than its worth when you can use reflectors jdajda is right in my opinion. If you want color changes use silver or gold, otherwise use basic white coreboard bounce cards. save yourself some time and money, and end up with a better product. What are you shooting on?

im shooting on a dvx100b with a matte box chrosziel 4x4 and im gonna use a jib seven too ... sooo you think than im better to use only reflector !! because i dont have the budjet for HMI light ahah at 325$ can for a day !!! its a good idee to use lot of white cardboard and like 650w for the background light ??? or anybody have the name for the 9 light think i know what are you talking about but i have no !!!! idee !!

you out side in a field, you have the hotest brightest most evenly lit light know to man, use it, use it for all you can, out there in the sun, you can try to bounce that little 650 of the core board but it ait going nowhere, use the sun as your light, then bounce for some back lighting, and some fill, and bame you have beautiful lighting. if anything it will be to bright and you'll want an ND filter, I think that camera has one built in.

The lights in your diagram won't do anything to boost sunlight, in fact when you put CTB on them you'll loose 2 stops on the source. I've seen Matt Workman use a 1.2k hmi to puch up daylight in a shaded area, but know he would have preferred a 2.5k. Save the stress of lugging that stuff around and get some foam core and reflectors.

alright soo im gonna use foam core to reflec the light and i can use the 650 to create a typical band video effect ... is that ok ??? or i can use 1k light at the back ...

what typical effect are you talking about? I would place reflectors behind them to back light them, but dude its your shoot, just do yourself a favor, being enough reflecters, if you get out there and realize that lights aren't adding anything, and you need tome real back lighting to work with your key light (the sun) you'll have enough to replace your lights.

Jason

No its ok for the light but i want place some light in the back of the band to do some blinder !!! soo if i use 650 is that ok i dont want really blind the camera but just create a effect Or if someone know the thecnical name does light .. ???

oh you want the lights to be in shot, creating lens flare as you move. yea hell 300s should do that. but thats normally done on stage in darkly lit bars or what not. never seen that in an outside daylight shot. you'll be the first.

but you should have some reflecters hidden, cause those 650s while yes wil show up on camera, and even give flare, will not do a thing to back light your subject. they are nothing more than props.

Jason

so Hell 600s is the name of those light or im completly stupid !!! sorry iam a french canadian !! ahah

No, he was refering to your 300w lights.
the light in that photo is something like a molepar that has 9 par64 lamps in there.

Blauzon, when do you do this shoot? I would like to hear what you learned? Do you have time to practise/experiment?

Cool I like the idea of having the molepar's (or whatever they are) outside. Never seen it like Jason said but I like mixing elements like that.

I doubt they will compete with the sun but as a prop I like the idea. Something you normally see indoors on a shoot now outdoors in a field. Doubt they will cast much noticable light.

yea thats all it can be is a prop, well, it will create a nice lens flare, which is a lighting effect, but as far as adding light to the subjects, no it isn't going to do much at all I think.
