hi wattage Fluorescent bulbs?

ok I see all these fluorescent bulbs at low watts claming to put out the lumes of higher watte globes. so here is my question, is a 25w flour puts out 100w of worth of light, then wouldn't a 500w flour put out 2k, and a 2k flour but out 8 k and so on, I know my math isn't exact, just going on the 4s to make the point.

my question is, if said is true in theory, then where the hell are the 500w 1k and 2k flours to be found. I've been seaching, all I can find is = 500w, and so on.

so what I'm looking for is the hotest flour that can be pluged into an 120 outlet.

most well wired 120s can handel a bit over 2k,

any ideas?

The highest wattage I know about is a 400w and its not sold in the USA. It's here in China. You have access to a 200w though:

http://www.teksupply.com/farm/supplies/prod1;ts1_lighting_fixtures_bulbs-ts1_light_bulbs_1;pg104995_104998.html

This will put out around 10,000 lumens so is equivalent to an 800w tungsten.
I've thought about the 300 and 400w versions but am not sure they are that usable as they are very big. The 200w model is already around 15" long and 5.3" wide.

If you're thinking about this for a chinese lantern, that's fine and this works; although you don't really need the lantern except to tone down the light or diffuse it a bit more, but if you need more light, a metal halide solution is the best probably for the really high outputs.

well what I'm hoping to pull out of my currently empty hat is a solution for throwing a lot of light a bit of a distance, and running it off of 110. basicly I need to bring the light in a large area up 2 to 3 stops. to comp for my hvx and the M2s light lose. as well as to have some nice fill light on my subjects. the long through will be all I can really use for my wide shots. that and the natural lights there. as well as some well hidden work lights throwing on walls and other objects. so i'll have that bounce going on, for the close up shots, they can be suplimented with a boat load of fresnels, and floods.

i'll have access to wither 2 1200 hmis, or one 1200 and a 570. one of the ballasts works with two heads, but only one at a time sadly.

I can't go beyond 1200s, because A light without power isn't a light at all, no matter how bright it can be.

Well if that's the case you really need HMI or tungsten then because the 200w bulb puts out some good light, but like most fluorescent just doesn't have the distance throw of a harder light. Plus you currently can't really get a tungsten colored 200w fluorescent bulb to match your other tungsten lighting--only a daylight colored one.

well its an outdoor night shot, so the tungstens will be filtered to daylight. but yea I'm going to have to make do with the 1200 hmis . thats a pretty costly bulb, not even my 800w moles with glob included cost that much. I got to wonder how much they make on each of those little 200s.

Jason,
Go to Fotodiox and spend 85 bucks for their 9 socket 2 circuit lighting utility.
Go to Home Depot and buy 9 100 watt 5500K spiral bulbs.
All you need is a stand and a/c to power 207 watts.
I have 2 of these except I have them rigged for 5 3500k and 4 5500k bulbs in the same utility on 2 different switches. The light is extremely bright and soft.
Oh . . . you could buy their 16 bulb configuration but I can't imagine the need for that.

Home Depot doesn't have 100w spiral bulbs, I think you mean 25w or 30w which I know they have and maybe even some 40w now in selected Home Depots. I doubt that a fluorescent would cut it on this shoot based on Jason's other posts. He's got a pretty big area to cover.

i'm going to have to accept that there is no way around hmi's i just hope I can work it out with the 2 I have. still havent found the location yet. getting down to a month to go, getting a little worried.

but I got my M2, came with a geared FF and 2 lenses. so thats one hard fall avoided.

got my actors and some good crew, thats, now really all thats left for prepro is location worries. and Lighting.

here is the list of lights I have access to,

2 1200 hmis, one of them also has a 575 head

1 1k fresnel
2 800w fresnels
5 or 6 650w fresnels
2 500 watte fresnels

1 open face 1k arri with speed ring and soft box

2 1k softbox kits

2 1k mole open face corner lights

1 smith vic 650 focusable flood

5 photos floods with 500w or 250w globes.

plus I'll have some home depote lights to bounce off the walls and lite trees or what ever is in the area.

lets prey I can come up with the power to lite them all.

at 2 k per socket, I'm going to need a bunch

dude, can you post a picture of this? Please?

The metal halide grow lights typically have a very low CRI and hence are somewhat "green" in output. Pretty unsuitable for any close work but perhaps could work for blanketing a large area with light and not having to see closeups of anyone.
