24p from DVD Architect

ok, almost there.

I rendered a 24p video from Sony Vegas as an MPEG 2 with the template for ntsc 24p DVD Architect stream...I think that was the name of it.

Now? In DVD Architect (the "obvious" steps don't seem to be included in the help files). Does DVD Architect automatically recognize the file and ouput it correctly? I notice under "optimize" that I can choose a 24 rate. Should I check that? Anything else? or just import the mpeg and output to dvd?

Thanks folks,

Barry Landis

If you rendered it as mpeg2, then don't do anything to it in DVD-A. It shouldn't need to be rendered again. DVD-A will just "prepare" the file before burning it to the disc.

When rendering 60i to 24p, I know I lose res..is there any difference in rendering at the 24pA rate or does that only work when shooting at 24pA. Also in the Video tab under quality, should you push the slider to max ? Any other settings to max out the best quality 60i to 24p. Is there quality loss if rendered at 24p in Vegas and then to mpeg 2 in DVD-A...... Thanks..

Naturally you will lose some resolution shooting 60i and then rendering to 24P. However, I have achieved very nice results rendering 60i to 24P. When you render, just choose the correct DVD Arhitect 24P MPEG2 template, keeping in mind whether you are widescreen or not. Now, do not render yet, click on the Custom properties and video tab and make sure you set the Variable bit rate to 8,000,000 for all three bit rate settings. This will increase the quality of the picture. Make sure you have Progressive 24P and widescreen if you need that. Render the file, and simply open Architect and drag the file to the blue menu 1 in the center. After this, click on your properties button and make sure you have NTSC (if using NTSC) 720x480 Widescreen or non widescreen. Then click burn...No need to change anything, no need to optimize. oh, for sound you must render another file from Vegas. As a matter of fact, I recommend as soon as your Vide file is rendered, click render in the file menu again and choose AC3 stereo I believe? You are rendering a sound file only. and it only takes a few seconds or minutes. Then, in the preferences dialog box in Architect, I think there is a preference that says something like "automatically find similar files" or pair similar files..something like that. Enable that checkbox and when you drag your video file to the blue menu 1 screen, it will automatically tie the sound in with it. That is as long as the file name is EXACTLY the same with the exception of the extension. In simple terms, if you have a video file called Movie.MPG, then your sound rendered file should be named, Movie.AC3 or whateve the extension is. Hope this helps, I have used these techniques with standard DV and the results have been Supreme.
