any ideas on how to build a robot for my movie?

Looking for a woman
i don't want to reveal too much about my upcoming comedy, but i can tell you that it starts out with a guy losing his job to a robot.

the bad news is that i don't have the money for an actual robot. i will have to build one. i figure that i could likely find enough scrap metal laying around the baby's room to put something together, but i've never used welding equipment before.

the metal i have access to ranges in size from a car hood to several assorted coat hangers, and possibly some old metal paint cans. there are a few rolls of duct tape in the garage. i don't know if that helps or not. does anyone have plans on how to make a robot and/or use a torch to weld things together?

Are you . . . serious?

don't worry, my actors had the same reaction when i told them about the robot. really the robot is only in the first hour of the movie. the next three focus on the protagonist's growth and self actualization.

No, it's more a question about you being serious about welding if you've never picked up a torch before.

But I'm starting to think that NONE of this is serious, so . . .

To try and build your own robot with little materials and no skills will just be a waste of time and resources. It would be easier to create one in 3D, and composite it in.

i'm joking about building one, but my movie actually does include a scene where a guy loses his job to a robot.

Seriously, my friend and I did this for a college art final.

Yeah, I love school..

But anyway.. We built it completely out of cardboard and hot glue. In addition you need and x-acto knife, a t-square, and some spray paint. It is stupid easy and is kinda fun. Between two costumes (one robot, one knight, all cardboard) we spend about $20 (lots of hours though).

We are making a comedy with them this summer too.

That reminds me of "Rob the Evil Backstabbing Robot" from MAD Magazine.
